WHAT SIZE IS YOUR HOUSE????!!!!!!
My parents go through alot of oil but thats cos they have a big open house which is old and even with new double glazing in its always still freezing!!
Think last year we probably used less than 1000L!! (Joys of having a small terraced house!)
house is quite big, and detached and in the middle of the country (not that that matters!) we have big rooms - kitchen and living room 25ft long and a big hall etc, however it was the first year since it was built and it takes a while to dry out completely, so hopefully this year it'll take a lot less. We have triple glazing and a huge amount of insulation so am hoping that helps.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

"well maybe i am  . But I would imagine doing it that way over time its probably swings and roundabouts and will all even itself out in the long run."
Swings and roundabouts are more likely to even out if you buy smaller amounts more frequently.
It's difficult to see how you can use so much oil unless you have an oil-burning range. An Aga gets through 30 litres a week.
There's a moral case here as well because profligate use of oil only encourages higher prices both at the local and global level.
You've also provided another good argument against people being allowed to build single dwellings in the countryside0 -

how does the amount of oil i use have anything to do with it being a single dwelling in the countryside? - my MIL lives in a small council house and her heat is pumping 24/7 - turned as high as it will go - so wheres your point?
and you know nothing about me nor my house so yes it prob is difficult for you to understand how much oil we use, and no we dont have an oil burning range.
And finally i dont really care about YOUR moral case. At the house building stage i have done everything right to ensure the house was extremely well insulated, we have triple glazing, underfloor heating and tiles throughout the house to make the best of it, the thermostats are turned to 18 degrees in the rooms we use and the rooms not used often the thermostats are turned off.

We also get through 3/4 000 litres a year - plus coal and wood and its not like we have the house hot - most evenings we are sat with blankets over our legs.
Our house isnt HUGE, 5 bedrooms and 3 receptions - just stuck in the middle of a field on the NW coast - makes for cold
I would call that huge compared to others i think~We are all going to hell and guess who Is driving the bus~*Norn Iron club Member 294* (Hi, we’ve had to remove part of your signature. good news! i ordered 2000 litres but the man came to my door to say he could only get 1400 in the tank, OH checked it - he must have thought twas lower than it was. So that means we only used 2500 litres last year! I think thats pretty good for a new house which is over 2000 sq ft. Now that its all dried out hopefully we'll use a lot less.
Obviously the triple glazing and insulation are doing a brilliant job cos I've a friend who used 900 litres a month the first year she was in her house! Its 3000 sq ft but nevertheless  and she didnt go overboard on the insulation like we did. Also we've got composite external doors which are about twice as thick as normal pvc ones - and i can say its all paid off now :TDON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

That sounds more like it! Burning 2,000 in six months was hard to believe.0 -

maybe hard for you to believe! but as i said i have a friend who was putting 900 litres in a month for a year   . her house is 3000 sq ft though, but still it seemed like an awful amount. shes now got a pellet burner heating running the heating some of the time now, if it turns out to work well for her then we shall probably get one and have the oil system as backup, we were going to get one when we moved in but heard so many bad things about them we were put off.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Nadnad sorry have not replied sooner, was in the corner crying in a bucket.
Mid terrace in the middle of east belfast, no kids and both of us work full time. I get through 800 litres a year. 900 on a bad year and probably 1000 this year. So the 2000 litre drop added to the 500 in the tank will do me minimum 2 years.
Swings and roundabouts on the price but you've got to remember this is the lowest the price has been since early 2007. Does anyone really think that oil is going to get cheaper in the long run???:rotfl:
So 2000 litres now at 690 paid for with the amex cash back card at 5% (34.50) applied for through quidco (34.00) then transferred onto the virgin 16 month 0% credit card makes for very cheap oil me thinks. 690 minus 68.50 but then add the transfer fee of 3% (20.70) still brings a decent saving. Also i have 16 months to pay it off now. If the price of oil over the 16 months averages out more than what i've paid then call me a liar....:T If prices go to half what they did last year i'm still in to save a whopping 400. Now tell me thats not worth it?
Also bought a multifuel stove for the lounge, chopped the councils trees down out the back and have been burning them for diddly squat. I would not condone or recommend this though.0
