In this first post I'll add any website links which will allow you to check oil prices online for comparison before ordering.

    Cheers

I ordered oil yesterday £274 for 500 litres at kellys fuels, best I could get was £255 at Patterson Oils and Kellys who I've a monthly direct debit with price matched it

Think I'll invest in a few cheap jumpers for the rest of the year haha

  • We've dual oil/coal heating but try running 18 radiators off one open fire. It's hard to do but at least the coal suppliments the oil.

My dad popped round to fix the airlock in my boiler today and he turned the boiler thermostat down to 60o, he says doing this has saved them money on oil. I know it seemed to help when I did it with my old Econ7 hot water tank but didn't even realise I could do it with the oil too :o

I used 500lts in the past 10 weeks and am mortified at the amount of money we've been spending on oil since we moved here :o

It's a reasonable solution for those who don't have £250+ to spend on oil, but it's actually very expensive. I paid for 500l last week with Lisburn Fuels and it cost 51p per litre. With ValueOils it's working out at just over 68p per litre in this deal.

That's quite a markup for 'helping' people. Seems to me they're looking after themselves first, punters second.

Wasn't disagreeing Dave (I did say it was a reasonable solution:D), just seems a little excessive.

There are a number of oil dealers who will operate a monthly payment plan. You basically pay the same(ish) for your oil, just spread the payments over 12 months. Worth looking to see if any will offer that.

As for hoping the price drops??? You and me both!
  • Wow DaveG7.
You really like ValueOils. Since joining in October and in just 11 messages, you have:
    • Defended their premium rate phone line
    • Frowned on suppliers that charge extra for late payment (just like on the ValueOils site)
    • Promoted their 200 litres option
    • And bought from them in November, January and now April (no wonder you're skint)
They should give you a job...if they haven't already ;)

I use maxol direct for oil deliveries as I find them quick and courteous. We have a dog so when I order I need to know what day they are going to come so I can leave the back gate open and the dog inside - maxol have delivered on that specific day every time so far without mishaps.
However I do make sure that I ring round the other oil companies first for quotes which takes about 10 mins and can save £££s.
For instance we ordered 900 litres last week which came on Tues of this week. The price last week was sitting around £460 for nearly all the oil providers but stephen morris were doing it for £439. Maxol matched this as I am an existing customer. £20 saving for 10 mins work - nice!
Would love to switch to gas but still seems far too expensive to get connected if it isnt in your house already - if phoenix have to pipe it from the road you are looking at £2000+ equivalent to over 4 full tanks of oil. Still far too expensive.

I live on the south coast and the cheapest quote I could get for 500L was £304! they said it has risen £40 on 500L in one week! 57.5p a litre.

So yeh its already there as thats £517 on 900L
