Hi there,
Well just listened to tv news and some of the bigwigs in the oil industry say that oil could reach $200 a barrell, that would make it near the £500 for 500 litres.
There is absolutely no way I would want to pay that on a regular basis about 4 times a year. I think I would start using the back-burner again with some type of solid fuel, what is the legal form to use by the way for a city area?

It would have to be smokeless fuel in the city. Apparently some of the collieries in England are going to be opened up again as they will now be more competitive.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

Now £287 for 500L (Maxol)
Personally I've switched off the oil in the mornings. Economy 7 electricity can heat water cheaper than oil but in the evenings oil is still cheaper than day-time electricity.
I've also started collecting wood for the autumn!0 -
It has been great here the last 3 days , my oil has not been on
i heated the water with the imersion heater, which some say is too sore on electric but i am on a card meter and i dont see much change

i am pretty sure the reason Cawoods didn't price match is because they already had my money (from my monthly direct debit) so they knew I was going to buy from them anyway...which is even more maddening. I had fully intended cancelling the direct debit and going elsewhere, but with the price of oil the way it is, I will probably have a debit balance with them now, wheras I had always been in credit before. I did argue the case with them before and they told me I was one of the very few customers in credit with them, and I asked why I was being penalised for other people's actions! Either way it will be 500 litres for me next time I fill, gone are the days of full tank orders!
I would be tempted to cancel anyways - you're giving them the green light to treat their customers like dirt. Some of these companies need to wake up and realise that if they treat customers like dirt - they will lose customers0 -
Thankfully the weather is a bit warmer now.
I hadn't had oil delivered for some time now - think March was last time I ordered £100worth....180 litres at the time......then I've just been using my 20 litre drums and getting what I need each week at local garage...expensive..yes...but I couldn't afford a big fill....
Now I've got the savings card and gonna just buy the £5 stamps (SVDP) when I can afford them....hopefully by the time the cold weather hits us again I'll have a reasonable amount saved to fill the tank.
Have an open fire too so that does for now and partner can get as much free wood as we want through his work - Shame I've no back boiler on the fire though:( .
Does anyone know how expensive they are to have installed etc ??? Would be well worth having as I usually burn the open fire along with the oil heating in Winter anyway......??
BTW - I noticed yesterday evening at about 8pm - it was warmer outside than it was in my house:rolleyes:0 -
Well the site I use for monitoring oil prices broke through the £500 per 900L mark this morning. That is for $125 (ish) for a barrel and they are talking of it going up to $200 ... I think we can safely say that this governments fuel poverty strategy (which is based on irrelevant criteria) is now, or soon will be, in total tatters.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
What website do you use for monitoring oil prices ivan??
The price is ridiculous at the minute and it will probly only keep going upwards!!!!!!!
I think bags of firelighters at my local filling station and bags of coal will keep me warm... might contimplate taking the oil out for good!!!
Im sure im not the only person in this position either!!0
