Since starting thread ive looked at ways to save money, how to cut down my bills (EG going from pay monthly to pay as you talk mobile) and how to curb spending.. Ive also had a search round google and seen just how much you could be entitled to help with through our benefits systems..
Housing - benefit + C/tax
Loans
Grants
Prescriptions
School Meals
Glasses
Food / Milk vouchers
and so muh more... Even though it is a bit of a pride swollowing thing to have to do initially... Makes you a little proud that our country does 'think of everything' it can do to help those who are genuinely claiming for 'the right' reasons... Perhaps initially on paper i just looked at the £60.00 per week IS for myslef and my 2 children adn thought HOW WILL WE LIVE ON THAT!! But the bigger picture is not what i saw... But after coming on here and google.. I see now, just how much we are offered in ways of help!!
Proud to be british and thankful that the help is there!!:j Life is what you make of it, live each day to the full:j0 -

That is a super post and shows how you've moved on from your first position. I'm sure everything will work out for you and you'll manage really well. Good luck.0 -

So why do you insist on thinking that you know what i can and cannot do with money etc?

Seems to me that people like the rude ones on here feel some sort of justification by trying to talk down to "scroungers" as you so nicely like to call people, like it makes you fill your superior quota for the day!!
But i really dont give a flying crap what anyone thinks, because i know that i worked everyday of my life and paid taxes up until i was 6 months pregnant....and even after i was left by my partner in my ninth month i never claimed a penny for anything up until my son was 9 months old,and i never claimed housing benefit or anything like that until he was 15 months old either!! So all these people who like to call me and others might like to keep that in mind next time they go on a benefits bashing mission to make your self feel like you are better than others...nobody is better than anyone, and no one is certainly any better that me because i have claimed benefits for a short period in my entire life!!
Very well said i couldnt agree more with the above post the rude ones on here do talk down to people on here my point exactly sitting there totting up what they think we recieve we all live in different aeas etc 1OO POUNDS PER WEEK FOR RENT MY RENT IS NOWHERE NEAR THAT AND AS FOR SCHOOL MEALS MY CHILD HAS A PACKED LUNCH a true scrounger would make their child stay on free school meals just to save a bit extra money as i said PLEASE GO AND GET A LIFEIt is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.0 -

Because you will almost certainly get your rent paid so add on another £100+ a week.
And then you wont have to pay Council Tax either....and dont forget free school meals....so what, another £50 a week.
We wont even bother totting up all the other benefits such as free prescriptions, concessions for daytrips and outings, grants, free school trips, music lessons etc....the list goes on.
All in all...you get a pretty good deal Id say.
people like you make me sick just reading this post its obvious, they cant stand the fact that we seem to get this that and the other for nothing PRETTY GOOD DEAL what a joke !!!It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.0 -
with respect jennie, and damzel, it is you who are coming across as rude.
compare your posts with the above from davenkirst.... youre coming across really badly, and i wonder whether you are enforcing any bad feelings against lp's/ benefit claimants? i suspect you are, and unfortunately i bet there are some lp's reading this cringing at your attitudes representing them.We cannot change anything unless we accept it. You must live in a very inexpensive area if you can rent 2 bed accommodation for less than £100 per week; if you look through the table of LHA amounts you'll see that there are very few areas wheere the rental allowance is less than this.
Why not just be happy that you live in a society that supports you when you're not working rather than getting so angry? Nobody's calling you or anybody else a scrounger on here (there are other boards where that happens) but I do think that you could be more appreciative, if not actually grateful.0 -

I rent my place for £90 a week but it is housing association, you couldnt even private rent a 1 bed round here for £100 a week.Oldernotwiser wrote: »You must live somewhere very cheap if you can rent 2 bed accommodation for less than £100 per week; it's hardly a typical rental amount.

I know! I checked through the LHA site(that's why I altered my post) and there are hardly any areas where the LHA for a 2 bed place is less than £100.0 -
my 2 bedroom flat is council owned and its £51 a week rent

I dont get LHA but some HB.
But private rent around my area is £600 - £700 for some 2 beds.
I guess I was just lucky to get a council property
