    jennie09,

I haven't read the whole thread (and can't really be bothered to), but I would echo what others have said. You are doing yourself no favours by a) making childish comments, and b) posting things that make absolutely no sense.

Constructive feedback - step away from the keyboard, calm down and don't take things so personally. When you do post, you are likely to come across better if you read what you have written before actually clicking to submit.

  • I dont know how anyone can say benefits are bad or low - in 2004 I was claiming HB, IS and CTB, and getting child benefit and child tax credits as a single, non driving, non working mum of two, I couldn't spend the money! Hardly managed to make a dent in it - I actually saved around £100 - £200 a month in my ISA, I dont know why there was so much left over. It wasn't calculated wrong, I checked it many times.

I reckon benefits are fine, and we are very lucky to have such options.

I am quite disappointed with some of the comments that I have read on here. Why is it that people assume that all benefit claimants are scroungers. I am also suprised by some of the figures posted on here.

My LHA is £116 per week, this roughly half covers my rent and I certainly dont get all of my council tax paid (i wish). Strangely enough my benefits haven't gone up much since I stopped working to be a carer for my husband. My LHA has only gone up by about £20 per week and I was earning about 15,000 per annum.
The only considerable change is that I now get IS and CA but giving the amount that goes into caring for someone full time is shocking.

I do consider myself to be lucky, but not due to the amount of money that I get. It due to the fact that like most people I don't have to worry about losing my job at the moment.
If someone was employed to do what I do it would cost the governement about £18,000 plus so for me to stay at home its actually saving them quite a bit.
I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

But that is what being married is all about. The sickness and health bit.

My husband is a sick chap and I guess I have looked after him for the last 10 years. I do it because I want to and he would do the same for me if he could.
Why does everything come down to money? And why is it always taxpayers that have to pay?

Our life, our problems, our responsibilities.

Did anyone watch Panorama last night? Made me feel very aware of how fortunate we are here in the UK. There was a lady having chemotherapy. She was living in a tent. She could not afford the drugs she needed for her cancer. America is the richest country in the Western World. What happens if Britain can no longer afford the welfare programme we have? Our country is effectively bankrupt, the Government are going to have to make some tough decisions about how they spend the money they have.

But surely you must either be living in very expensive accommodation or have another income source, to be in this situation?

I live in a 3 bedroom house and my rent is £730 per month, which is pretty average for where I live. I don't have any other income coming in. I just have to watch my outgoings very carefully.

Is the house bigger than you need, is that why you have to add so much to the LHA?
