I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.

  • baby blankets...

i am very new to crochet and want to have a go at a simple baby blanket. sex of baby isnt known, so i was thinking about doing simple stripes, maybe 4 rows in one colour, 3 in another, etc. i was thinking white, grey, then maybe purple and pistachio. what do you think? any ideas?

also i would like to know which is a good brand of wool to buy or ply or type or i dont know!!!! basically what is good for soft baby wool?

    thanks

I would choose a yarn that is machine washable as a new mum won't have time for hand washing. I have used dk yarn to make a crochet blanket, and quite a tight tension, and have made a number of squares - 6" of various colours so it can be used for either sex.
  • thank you. i want it to be completed before the baby comes, so thats why i want neutral colours! but something a bit different too!

another question... can i choose colours that are different brands/material (i.e. wool, cotton, or whatever)? as long as i stick with the same ??ply??

    Loving all these pics!

I've not been crocheting all that long and i haven't tried bags, hats, clothing or anything other than straight line crochet or granny square crochet, but i thought i would share a pic or two with you of my recently finished bed throw (or maybe it's not finished, i may go around it a couple of times more - not sure yet):

I'll try to dig out the picture but I did a very simple bubble blacket for a friend when her son was born... Plain white and just bought "baby wool" - thought it was a bit cruel but hey... if they can make wool from babies... ;)
    Washed well though!
Very very simple really - pick a stitch you like the look off (another option is popcorn stitch) and just decide how wide you want it and count in multiples of the stitch you're doing. In the end I simply went rount it a few times and then did some plain scalloping to make it pretty... you could do this in a different colout if you wanted :)

Very very quick to crochet up - think it took me 2 evenings as a beginner to do the main bit and another for the scalloping but I had never done it before! :)
