Can anyone recommend any nice flower patterns - I want to make a brooch, but something with a bit of 'depth' to it, rather than just a flat flower.

I made this for my friend, didn't take long, but does use a lot of yarn.

  • another question... can i choose colours that are different brands/material (i.e. wool, cotton, or whatever)? as long as i stick with the same ??ply??

You can mix wools and material but if its something thats going to be washed there is risk of one area shrinking or not all shrinking to the same size.
I tend to use 100% acyrics as I dont like itchy wool and although all the silks and cottons are great I can't really afford them! But you can mix brands no problem.

I have just popped back here after a few weeks of busy hooking and thank you so much for such kind comments about my place mats and coasters. I am sorry I do not have a pattern but just worked in the round as I went and then copied that initial pattern as I made the second one. I think you may be able to work it out from the picture. I made 2 sides and padded the mat with a double pad made of thick towelling.
I hope this is of some help and I hope you try to make some for yourself!

I just finished a turtle. I am soooo proud of her, I named her Miss Turtle. She is to be a christening present for my cousins baby, who will only b about 6 weeks old. All I have to do is put on eyes and a mouth. Does anyone know how to do French knots?

(I'm using my mobile just now, will add a pic soon, as she is soo gorgeous )
Really, I should not get too attached haha.

Well I have ordered a set of crochet hooks and I have the yarn already and I was given some crochet books as a birthday gift so I am all ready to go! Now I just need to get the hang of it!
