It's been a while since someone last posted so i hope there are still some keen crocheters out there in a middle or about to start a project and are still willing to add to this thread as i would love to share with you some of my makes and on going projects! Anyways 'hi' and glad i've found my new love for crocheting!

Spent today Crocheting. Made two 8" squares to send to Africa to be made in to blankets for the kids. One was Tunisian Crochet which I find much easier
I then made a scarf using a 15mm hook and 2 strands of wool, one brown and one turquoise. Good thing about it is that my mistakes don't show because its meant to be full of holes and a bit random2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
Kit thats interesting as i was thinking of making a thick chunky blanket with a large hook, i would love to see your finished scarf! What wool would everyone recommend? I was thinking Sirdar super chunky? But that wool takes 10mm hook are there any other wools out there that will take the larger size hooks?
My wool arrived today so i've started on a pink/purple themed bunting for DD! I might try out the Xmas robin bauble later tonight!
Dizzy Lizzie, thank you! Looking forward to seeing your blanket!0 -
Will post pic as soon as I can get one online.
I used 2 threads of normal weight wool with a 15mm hook and all done in treble stitch. The result is a very loosely sewn scarf which was the effect I was going for.
For a chunky blanket then you would need the super thick wool in a tighter stitch. Tunisian stitch would be idea as you can create some great chunky stitches but you wouldnt be able to make it all in one piece.
Edit - I have a book about crochet with large hooks ... will see what it recommend for wool and let you know.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
This has probably already been posted, but can anyone point me in the direction of decent you-tube videos or similar showing how to crochet? I would LOVE to learn how to do this but I've never been able to get my head around written instructions, I'm one of those people who needs to see it and do it rather than read it. I can knit fairly well so I'm not a totally useless
but crochet has always been a bit of a mystery to me and I'd love to be able to give it a go.
Thank you all in advance for any help!0 -

Callie22 - Do a search on youtube for 'learn to crochet'. There are plenty there and you will have to watch them and see which on 'clicks' with you. I had to watch loads before I got my 'click'!2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -

I gave up on my first night of trying to crochet but i found it easier if you have a pattern or style of crochet you like and then looking it up on YouTube and watching the tutorials. I seen a large granny square blanket and decided i wanted to do that so i went on YouTube and watched a few granny square for beginners tutorials and my love of crocheting started from there! Honestly if i can do it anyone can!I can knit too but i find crocheting so much more relaxing and i find my project builds up faster than knitting too!
I will have a look for that granny square YouTube video i learnt from and be right back.
This is it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11Wh7IOT9BI&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLD3E3A447CF20F9C0
For anything i didn't understand i YouTube the term, like for example if the person mentioned 'triple crochet' i watched a video for that tutorial on 'how to do a triple crochet'. But i promise after you get the hang of it like Kit said it will just 'click'! Good luck.0 -
