This thread seems to have gone very quiet. I have got all my bits and pieces and I have just completed my first two squares for my blanket! They are a bit wobbly however I am really pleased and once it is all sown together I am sure the flaws will vanish (ish)

Rummer; Well done on your completing 2 squares. As you go along it will get easier and quicker :j. Looking forward to seeing your finished item.

I have oodles of squares now, although a friend pointed out I had missed the last stitch in each row so they all have a wavy edge! Not too bothered as they all look the same!

I went to a craft show yesterday and saw some examples of extreme crochet. Unfortunately there wasn't anyone demonstrating it, just knitting with big needles.

Has anyone ever done it, it looks fun :D

I've never heard of extreme crochet - it sounds like one of those really dangerous sports like extreme kayaking.

Sounds like Tunisian Crochet to me. Large hook, like a knitting needle. End result looks more like knitting, ideal for jumpers etc.

yes its a very large hook, but the crochet is still done the same with the one stitch unlike the Tunisian where I think you add more so its like knitting with one needle?

I looked on youtube and there is a demo with a bloke using a very big fat hook and he used 5 strands of wool and was just making a granny square, think I might have a go, if anything it would use up all my wool stash then I can buy some more ;)
