Ami82 I have been doing extreme crochet where you use lots of strands of any wool and a thick hook. Any old balls of wool are worked together and it grows really quickly. So you can mix and match colours - im sure you will find something if you google it which will explain much better than me. ginnyknit thank you, i've just YouTubed 'extreme crochet' and found some tutorials from mikeyssmail and saw some blankets he had done with many stands of chunky wool and the most enormous hook i've ever seen! I love it! I think this will be the method i am using for my chunky blanket! I love new ideas so thank you for mentioning it to me.
Oh can i ask what size hook did you use and how many strands for your mat? I was thinking for my blanket 5 balls of chunky yarn at the same time but which size hook? mikeyssmail mentioned the size of the hook he used was a 'P' does anyone know what size that is in UK? Sorry for all the questions!

Hi Ami, I've just made some wristwarmers and covered a coathanger. I've got a ripple blanket on the go which I would like to finish for the winter. There's too many things that I want to make, it's just a case of finding the time
Oh - I'd also like to make some Christmas ornaments - I made snowflakes last year and ended up not using them. Hopefully I'll be a bit more organised this year.
Can't wait to see what else you make,

Hi -hope you don't mind me joining in. I've loved looking at everyone's work. It's lovely. I've been crocheting for just over a year -I find it very therapeutic. I made this blanket this year:

Wow, thats great. I have been thinking about doing a hexagonal blanket. Sooooooo many things I want to do and soooooo little time!
Plus all this wool is going to cost me a fortune ..... the charity shops round here have all ran out2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
I been making a scarf for my daughter tonight using up bits of left over wool. Using a 10mm hook and 3 strands. Didnt finish it though cause I thought I best pay some attention to DH instead of stitching2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0

Hi Kit - I know, wool is expensive. I usually buy mine from the local pound shops if they have colours I like, and I also use http://www.deramores.com/. Their customer service is excellent. They have regular offers and discounts, and they have a clearance section: http://www.deramores.com/clearance.0

Ami82 the biggest hook I have is about a 9mm but have also tried the extreme knitting with a pair of 25mm needles and strands of aran, dk and 4 ply.I guess you could look for a conversion table of hook sizes -Im sure it will google. The 9mm took a fair few strands. Machine knitting cones of wool from the charity shop can be mixed in too - few people buy them as its too thin, however if you wind off a few balls and work them all togehter it comes out well and cheap too! Just had a look and P wasnt on the chart but Im guessing 10 or 11mm?Clearing the junk to travel light

Morning! Thanks ginnyknit the extreme crocheting is going to be next on the long list to make! I have almost finish DD's bunting so the next stage will be blocking which i really hate doing! But it won't look the same without doing it.
DD (4) has asked me to make her a doll's blanket which i thought was a great idea to use up left over wool (oh and because i love her and will do anything for her!) So i will get on to that tonight. Gosh i have to much to do! Anyways hope you all ok and can grab some time to crochet today!0 -
Pic of the scarf I have done for DD to match a hat I made a week or so ago. Its done on a 10mm hook with 3 strands of wool.
