Hello, this is the book I got it was discussed on Attic 24, which is a blog I love and it was a bargain price too:

Ooh I'm tempted Rummer but I'm terrible for buying the books, looking at the pretty pics and then...not doing them!
Then again the colours in the book look so pretty...:D

  • After being inspired by someone on this thread that posted a lovely granny square beige, pink and white blanket I have picked up my crochet hook again and am trying to make my own.

I have never got on with crochet before (can never find the right stitch to work into - mainly when turning) and been a prolific knitter instead although not done anything recently.

Now I have almost finished six big granny squares done in navy, pink and white but would really like to crochet them together rather than sew them (I hate sewing up!). Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to crochet them together?

If you go on youtube and searching for crochet joining then you should find something. There are a few different ways it can be done :)

Hi, this is the problem I have too. I've been teaching myself from an old booklet from a charity shop; it's great for the beginning and all the stitches, but skimps on that and also on how to join in different colours.
Then I managed to grab a copy of '200 crochet blocks' for only £2:T so now have lots of lovely designs and am working my way through all the easy ones (they're graded 1,2 & 3).

Anyhow, the which stitch problem. It still occurs but it got easier once I hit on doing a sample using the same dk wool but a much bigger hook. You can see much more clearly exactly what stitches you've made, and count those turning chains. You only have to do a couple of rows of the pattern, then it's much easier to spot what you're meant to be doing with the smaller hook. And at least it's far easier to undo than knitting!
    Hope that helps:)
  • I'm so glad to have found this thread! I've been crocheting since I was 6 or 7 years old and have made my older 2 chidren shawls and am currently working on my youngest daughter's blanket.

I was going to make a beautiful Hello Kitty blanket for my BIL's baby until his girlfriend said that crochet is for 70 year old grannies! To say I was not amused is an understatement, but I'm glad I didn't waste money on buying the battern or yarn for the shawl.

Instead, I'm going to make a Minnie Mouse shawl for my daughter. I just need to find the right yarn.

Oh dear ,thats such a shame :(.I've made 3 baby blankets so far this year ,2 for DGD and one for my DNeice baby boy and they seem to have gone down quite well. Both Mums are young and trendy, but whenever I go round ,the blankets are obviously in use .I suppose its each to his own.I'm sure your DD will love her Minnie Mouse one though :)

I've not posted on here for ages, and didnt think to take piccies of the blankets I made, but I always read :)

Crochet is making a big come back and is NOT just for 70 year olds :)

  • I know crochet is not just for 70 year olds, but I did think it was a bit hurtful as I mentioned it because I was going to make the blanket as a surprise for her.

It was the first time I'd met the girlfriend and have since come to find that she's got no maternal instincts or even 'homely' instincts, so her comment is actually no surprise at all.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Red Heart yarn, which is American and is what the Minnie Mouse pattern refers to?

    Thanks indavance!

I got that book from my local CS too!! (and only cost 40p) It is brilliant to make different squares for a blanket - I started one a few months ago while my d-in-law was pregnant, but after my son told me he wouldn't like his son having a blanket with pink in it, I stopped crocheting until she was born 2 weeks ago. So it's all go now for pinks, lilacs etc!! Which is a real treat after having 4 sons.
  • I love crocheting and Im in my 30s!! I do knit but unless it major chunky wool its very hard going. Crocheting on the other hand is easier faster and I can keep going for longer. On my second crochet blanket I would never even attempt it knitting wise.

Got few bits on my blog will try and add it to my detials when I find out how!
