It is not hard to do at all.

Thank you so much mumoftwo I shall def give it a go. I love little projects. I am doing some teacups at the mo and am looking for a pattern for a teapot so if anyone has one, or knows where I can get one (pref free :o) I would be very grateful.:heart::heart:

My dear old Nan taught me to do basic crochet when I was little, I have often thought about taking it up again. I remember it being much less of a faff than knitting.

Fab necklace pennib, that would cost a lot to buy one - if there was one like it! Am also loving the eggs, just printing out the pattern - just what I needed to solve an easter problem. Thanks guys :)

  • Hi, hopefully this is an easy question (well two questions really!) In case you can't tell from the questions, I am learning to crochet so be gentle!

I am just coming to the end of my first ball of wool, how do I join the next one on? Do I just double up for a few stitches as in knitting?

When I get to the end, how do I finish off? I don't want to crochet the same thing forever!! And what do I do with the "tail" at the start?

Oops, once I got going that turned into three questions, sorry!

I have always wanted to learn how to crochet and to knit properly and I have just booked myself onto a day long course that provides an intro to both! Looking forward to sharing my creations with you in the near future!

    Welcome Pink_Giraffe and Rummer!

Pink Giraffe, people have different ways to do everything in crochet so what I'm saying is not necessarily 'right' but you will find your own way in time. For joining a new ball, some people fasten off the first one and start with the new in the next place - I will translate fastening off after. Perhaps a 'cleaner' way to do it though is on your last stitch if say you are doing single crochet (SC), which is called double crochet (DC) in English patterns I would do this - put hook under next top 'V' stitch like you would normally, with the new ball of wool yarn over and continue as usual, you will have two ends hanging out which you can deal with once you have finished. Crochet is like making lots of knots so you ends will be safe. When you finish to fasten off you can just make the last stitch, cut the end and pull through, because it's a knot it will be secure, if you want to be extra secure you can make the last crochet stitch then make a chain stitch on top and pull it through tight. When you are all done you have to go back and sew in all your ends but if change colour of need to join more wool in the middle of a project I usually lay the ends on under the stitches you are about to make (on top of the 'V's') and crochet alone as usual hiding the ends as you go. I hope you understand all that, if not ask again, I really won't mind, I might not have explained it properly. If you Google your questions, you will probably find a load of video tutorials to help you.

Phew, I have just read my way through the whole thread and I am so impressed at all the things you have been producing! I have reserved a couple of books from the library and have book marked lots of sites that you have all recommended. Now I just have to located my crochet hook, I think I threw it into my knitting bag in disgust the last time I tried to get the hang of crochet.

Hi all, I know this is a long shot, but I got this gift free with my subscription (which I've now cancelled), I keep starting it then pulling it out then starting it again.

Anyway, it's been on the coffee table in my shared flat for ages and I went to start it again (as I'm off sick from work) and I can't find the pattern. I've looked all over the place and can't find it anywhere. I was wondering whether anyone would have this and would mind either posting or PMing me the four rows that make up the pattern?

Many many thanks in advance! If I can't finish it after so long I might go a bit loopy :)
