Thanks dizzylizzie
Now completed a gorgeous ruffle scarf..... local shop has some nice wool in their sale, I do think quite a few people might get exactly the same scarf for Christmas presents this year!
I did indeed notice the theme, something about warm/spring/sun seemed to shine through?!
Been a lovely day today, a real promise of spring being around the cornerThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open0 -
Please tell me that perseverence pays off and if I stick at it I will learn.
Having seem all the fabulous things you've made and reading Lucy's blog I decided that I really wanted to learn to crochet. So last night I went to a knit and natter group where a really patient lovely lady tried to teach me. I just didn't *get* it. Even now the crochet hook and what she was doing with it is a complete blur in my memory.
I am now trying to watch the youtube tutorials and even the ones in slow motion are too fast for me. Am I beyond help? Or if I keep at it will it suddenly just click? Has anyone else been as rubbish as me to start with?0 -

Don't give up...myself and a work colleague started taking our crochet in work to do at lunchtimes. Slowly but surely people started taking an interest and some have asked if we'll show them how to crochet. Initially they found it very hard, all fingers and thumbs but with perseverance they are getting better. They are just focusing on the foundation chain, and getting a feel for holding the wool and hook and taking things reeeeeeally slowly. Don't rush it and only move on to the basic stitches when you feel confident to. And keep practising...you will get better at it. Don't worry about the youtube tutorials, I can get easily confused too watching some of those! Have a look at this site...

Looks good with great videos that are clear and precise.
I do have an ulterior motive of course for wanting you to succeed...once you've mastered it we want.........piccies, cos we love looking at others projects
Need any more help then just ask and we'll try to help.

Ditto what Dizzy Lizzie says....
i only learned at the end of summer '09. one of my friends tried to show me... what a disaster! haha
i then began looking on you yube and came across TJW1965... i started with a scarf or blanket pattern, but not a granny square one.... just rows and rows and rows.
here is her playlist of beginner stitches. i used to pause and go back until i got that one little bit....

Thanks everyone. I have decided to spend at least an hour a day just trying to learn the stitches. I actually managed 2 lines that looked something crochet yesterday, only a couple of inches, but still
. I do find myself reading things and thinking "What on Earth does that mean?" However, the minute I start getting frustrated and my brain hurts I put it down. This happens frequently!!!!!!!!!!

I seem to be doing bits here and there and doing nothing in particular. I need to get a project sorted. Going to do some bunting for school but that won't take long. I keep toying with the idea of doing hearts and stitching them together to make a 'romantic' throw for over the bed.
Ah I'll think of something...and then I'll post a pic :j
