I am a branch manager for HSBC and as long as your daughter has mot been overdrawn and has managed her account ok then an upgradw should be ok.:D

Daughter went into HSBC branch today, to be told that although her 'account behaviour' score exceeds the requirement, she must credit the account with £500 a month to be entitled to upgrade her Solo card. She explained that she lives at home with parents and only has a part-time job at present and pays all her £400 per month wages into her account. "Computer says Noooo".
In true MSE spirit, she has researched the best renewal rate for her car insurance and found a deal with the best rate plus £50 cashback and a £10 recommend a friend bonus for herself and me. She stands to lose all this because Solo cards are not accepted by the insurance company (Tesco) for online payments. Harsh. Am currently researching accounts with other banks in the hope we can organise something prior to renewal on 15/01/09

Could you pay it on your card for her and then she can pay you back - that is what I would do.

No, the card holder must be the policy holder....already tried that one!

Think she's going to be deserting HSBC for this. Barclays will give a Visa Connect she can use anywhere.

Oh how ridiculous - I would move banks then if I was her - I don't honestly rate HSBC anyway.

The online application form throws up an error message and won't let you proceed if cardholder and policyholder names are not the same.

However she'll lose the online discount on the premium. That's why I'm so irritated with the stupid Solo card!
