Just wanted to double confirm this. So from the date of January 10th, everyone who get a new hsbc card will be issued with a VISA debit and NOT maestro?0 -

I imagine so. The thing I saw just said that new applicants would get Visa rather than Maestro. That's all I know.0 -
Cheers Shelfstacker.
I am visiting USA next month, so might request a new card replacement as I know maestro is not widely accepted as VISA in the States. It is more practical to have a VISA debit card rather than maestro debit in USA for purchasing purposes. I currently hold a black HSBC PLUS maestro debit card, so I don't know if this make a difference to whether i get a VISA debit card ahead of others i.e new customers.0 -

Plus customers get it first, but if you're going abroad you should be able to go and request a new card in branch.0 -
Cheers for your help.
I will request one after the 10th of January due to wear and tear of my HSBC PLUS debit card and see what happens whether i get a new VISA debit. I will let you all know.0 -

I've just applied for an HSBC advance account after getting fed up with Smile after 9 years, paperwork arrived in the post today to sign and produce ID. If I wait until after the 10th to return the paperwork do you think I stand a chance of getting a VISA card or will the Maestro already be ready to send out? Only thinking of going to the states later in the year so the Vista card would be handy.

You might as well. I'd imagine after that date then yes, you'd get Visa.0 -

Visa will likely "assist" them with a lot of the costs for switching - this will, over time, make them a lot of money. However, there will still be a good chunk to pay - there's systems to upgrades, staff training, blah blah blah etc. What would William Shatner do?0
