  • Put the heating on today for the first time since the summer!! Made some pea and broccoli soup from reduced veg from Mr T and just chilling with the paper til OH's children come for supper tonight.

Can't believe it's back to work tomorrow, I just know nothing will work because it's been so cold, none of the materials will set properly if they are not at room temp and they turn the hot water off during leave so we're looking at a frustrating day at work!!! I love it though and my patients are all stars so we shall manage!

    Love to all

Afternoon everyone. Good to hear that there are less poorly ones out there now - still sending warm thoughts to those that need them though, and our pusscat sends purrs to all poorly pets too.

A busy day today - we had a ten minute blitz on the front room this morning and managed to set aside quite a bit of stuff for shredding/throwing away. The shredding is now mostly done, and the stuff for filing is stacked on the computer desk ready to do when I get the chance.

We're getting on well with the spare room decorating now - this morning MrEH and I have cut the batons which will support the shelves we're putting up on one side, and I've sanded those down and drilled and countersunk the holes ready to put up. We've now got to get working on drilling the holes in the wall (which requires a hammer drill, here!) for the batons and the brackets. Once the rawlplugs are in those we can cary on painting.....

Food today has been easy - didn't get up until 9am so didn't bother with breakfast - we've just had salmon and boiled potatoes for lunch with red cabbage and apple from the freezer. That's the last of the red cabbage now so shall have to make more once I've got space for it. We've also eaten the remaining clementine sorbet that was made to use up the leftover clems - it was delicious so will be bookmarking that recipe to use again. We're at my Aunts for tea tonight - will be nice to see the family but TBH it's so cold I'm half wishing I could just stay here....ho hum!

Right - onwards then - rolls to be made for lunches (I boiled eggs and made egg mayo mix this morning which will do nicely for tomorrow) - will do the dough in the BM. Then it's back to drilling holes I think!

    :hello: Good afternoon all!

Didn't make it to church this morning, as Christmas plus a visit to the in-laws on Friday finally caught up with me and I feel as if I've got a bad hangover despite not having been drinking (well, not since a glass of Bailey's on NYD anyway) so am having a quiet day today. Getting some washing done though, and wondering how come the detergent drawer has a bit of mould on it already despite its having been thoroughly cleaned just before Christmas:confused:

I haven't read the rest of the thread yet as I was afraid that if I did that, I'd have run out of energy to post by the time I'd read everyone else's news:p so for now I'll just say WELCOME to new posters and big ((((HUGS)))) to everyone in need of some.

Tonight's dinner will be shepherd's pie - believe it or not, although I've been cooking for 35 years this will be the first time I've made actual shepherd's pie, i.e. with lamb mince. I've always made cottage pie, with beef mince, probably because that's what my Mum and Gran used to make. Perhaps my Grandad and Dad didn't like minced lamb:confused:

Off now to catch up on the end of y'day's thread and the rest of today's:wave:

    Take care all

  • Hi all!

Just thought I would pop back in to see how everyone was doing. I have managed to get dressed finally (been in my jammies til about 1300). Second lot of washing going on shortly, BM loaf cooling in the kitchen, veg all prepped for dinner tonight and I seem to have lost about 3 hrs just surfing the net and reading and printing things out. Still I was up early so it isn't really time wasted.

Kaatlady - Hi honey - good to see you
Sunnyday - a meal planner for a whole month??? I am so impressed - I find it hard to come up with meals to write for a week.
Ladygrim - Nice to see you hon and thank you
halight - I haven't been on a sun holiday for four years but I think you will have a great time and it does save money!
hermoine - sorry to hear about the boiler, hope it isn't too long before it's fixed

Jackie0 - This is the recipe I use.

    1 kg carrots chopped
A large onion (preferably red) roughly chopped
    2 cloves of garlic
1 litre of vegetable stock (I used 2 veg stock cubes)
    A little oil
    1 tsp ground coriander
big bunch of fresh coriander roughly chopped
I like to put in half a tsp chilli powder just for a backgound flavour or a full tsp if wanting a kick. (You can also use curry powder for a change too)
    • Heat the oil in a large pan and add the onions and the garlic. Cook until starting to soften. Don't let them go brown, just let them go transparent.
    • Add carrots and cook for about 5 or so mins til they start to soften.
    • Stir in the ground coriander. Cook for a minute.
    • Add the vegetable stock and bring to the boil. Simmer until the vegetables are tender.
    • Add half a bunch of the coriander and whizz with a hand blender or in a blender until smooth.
    • Reheat in a clean pan, stir in the rest of the fresh coriander and serve.
You can swirl in a drop of milk or cream to make it creamier before you eat and/or serve with garlic croutons.

    Welcome Danksshady!

I've been busy yesterday and today, so not been able to post until just now.

Was at a friend's father's funeral yesterday :( It's a hard time anyway, but seems to be doubly so at this time of year.

Today, DH and I tackled the housework, so between the pair of us we made quick work of it. He's back to work on Tuesday and I'm back on Wednesday so we were keen to get it tackled. Used Stardrops on the cooker and it came up gleaming :)

No sign of snow with us, it's been a dark, grey drizzly kind of day. Took the dog out for a walk about an hour ago when it was dry, so was glad of that :)

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and is preparing for things to get back to normal?!

Hi all, thanks for the welcome!
It's very chilly here in Yorkshire but OH and I managed to drag ourselves out for a walk acros the fields and am now looking forward to our sausages (from the local farm) and mash with the last of the veg lurking in the fridge.
I've got an interview tomorrow for a job i really want so am feeling quite nervous:eek: . I hope they tell me asap as I am still waiting to hear from an interview in December, not good for the nerves either. We moved here with OH job and i can't wait to get permanent work so that i feel more settled.

Hope all those feeling under the weather are feeling better soon and those who are back at w**k tomorrow don't find it too much of a bind!

    Hi everyone

Quite late for me to post today but got side tracked when I got up this morning, trying to finish off backstitching on large baby sampler that I am close to finishing. Just need to get myself in gear for doing another one as a friend has announced her second attempt at IVF has worked. Hurrah !

Gave a quick whizz around this morning but not much to do as I did most of it yesterday. Made some butterfly cakes, so that I could use up the last of the eggs in the fridge, together with some wholemeal flour that had just run out in December. It was also a test run for pink buttercream icing, truth be known, for my DN who is 8 later this month and who is having a birthday party at home, Three guesses who volunteered to do the cakes and entertaining? Only problem was, I was thinking subtle pink icing, but hand slipped and it came out bright dazzling pink. You can imagine look on DH face when I presented him with some! Lol.

Used up liver and onions with some roasties for lunch. DH's fave. Am definitely going to do Mr T order today. Was hoping I wouldn't have to but needs must, as they say. A date with an internet site awaits. Hoping to settle down early tonight and finish library book. Hope temperature improves for one and all. Good luck to all going back to work tomorrow. I will have that 'luxury' next week. I'm still on bereavement leave till then but think the longer I take, the worse it will be, so I am going to spend the next week getting up at 5.15am to get back into the routine. At least I will be able to post early, she says, hoping not to be tempted by the duvet. Anyway, speak soon,
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
