OS Daily Thread - Sunday 4th January

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 4th January 2009. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

My darling cat Treacle had another 'fit' last night and I have woken up early worrying about her.. Am going to do some reading online about cats health once I have posted here.

halight - we used the Sun tokens for years and always had fabulous holidays. Until my health became a real issue we went away via the Sun newspaper twice a year and always loved it. Before then, I had never imagined I could ever holiday in a huge static caravan but they are really fun! It's like playing house when you are a kid!
Jorgan - Hope your mum had a great birthday yesterday
welcome2.gifkatholicos, Carrie, CurlyTop, teapartymum and Lucyjaynecummings and any other newbies I have missed. Of course it's ok to join us, the more the merrier! Not sure an egg timer is long enough though - you need one of those huge timers that give you an hour at least..:rotfl:
Curlytop - so sorry to hear about your father, must have been such a shock after the happiness of your wedding. As others have said, we are all here for you and will 'listen' to anything you have to say. It's what makes this thread so special, the support that is always here for anyone who needs it.
Cazspatch - Sorry about your gran, honey *hugs*

Have to admit I heard strange noises coming from the kitchen yesterday so called my OH in from the other room to have a look and see what was wrong. 'It's the washing machine you daft bat' was his loving reply.. We haven't used it since NYE and I hadn't realised how much quieter the house had been until he put it on yesterday! rotfl.gif

To those who asked about Tristan, he seems to be doing well, had a great holiday before christmas and is now home again with a house full of relatives staying at least another week or so, so he has plenty of company. He mails every few days complaining that his nephews and neices are on the puter all day and he can't get a look in!

Plans for today - more washing to catch up on.. and I have to start making a pinata. Food wise we have defrosted some turkey as we haven't had any for a few days and for dessert, left over Christmas pud crumbled into a pan with some butter and a little sugar and kind of fried til piping hot. We serve it with/over vanilla icecream. You can add a glug sherry or brandy or something if you like but it doesn't really need it.

Anyone seen Kaatlady lately? She seems to be MIA.

Anyway, I have, as usual, written way too much. I hope everyone has a lovely relaxing Sunday.

Good morning MSD and all who follow.

I woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I've been surfing on here and now I'm feeling tired!

The tree is coming down today so I shall look forward to getting the house back to normal. I like how clean and uncluttered the place looks once Christmas is finally over. It's been a good one this year, though, especially with the grandchildren (nearly 9 and nearly 6); they've really enjoyed it and have been very appreciative off all the presents they've had from everyone. Their birthdays are this month, too, so it will be another round of presents. Luckily, I bought them all before Christmas so just need to get round to wrapping them up.

Just read your post from yesterday, Smoky - the vodka should work well on the urine smell!

Dinner today is roast chicken and pudding is undecided.

Well, I'm off to put the kettle on again, have a cuppa and then have a shower.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday. (((Hugs))) to all the poorlies and those of you who are anxious. Welcome to all the newbies.

  • Good morning to all!

DD got me up again at 5am... I really must find a way for her to sleep longer...

On the plus my sink is still shiny, but I got dressed to the shoes.... altough I feel I have cheated a bit, because DD wouldn't let me get dressed first thing, so I brought her down, made her toast and milk and then went back upstairs to get dressed. I even put some make up on... I feel like a woman...

Washing machine is running and once I posted here I will fold yesterdays washing. Then I am going to start tackling some administration that is filing some stuff... I haven't done it in ages and as the pile grew bigger I put it off more and more and last night the light bulb switched on: I haven't got to do it all in one go, do I? So I am going to file for 15 minutes today and see how far I get!

Then later take DD for a nice walk, might make curried parsnip snoup and home made bread rolls for dinner (dough made in BM....)

    Morning peeps

I`m up and about early today, DH has gone fishing for the day with one of his friends so i have the house to myself :j

Both houndies are fast asleep and it seems very quiet here, i`ve already emptied the dw and hung the washing up to dry, the bm has just been emptied too so once it cools down i shall make some dough in it for some soft rolls, i only made some last night but there are now only 2 rolls left

My main task today is ironing, i have 2 piles to get through as it appears to breed when i`m not looking and i also have more washing to do but i may leave that until later as i can now almost see the bottom of the washing basket. The main thing that i need to wash is one of the doggie beds but it`s always occupied so maybe overnight would be best for that one.

I`ve not ventured outside yet and it is still pitch black out there but i can hear the wind in the chimney so it sounds as if it will be a cold day today, hope it warms up later as i have some troughs to wash out for the greenhouse, i am trying to get organised ready for the growing season and i`m just itching for some warmer weather so that i can start to grow some food.

I did a mealplanner yesterday for the whole of January and printed it off and have stuck it to the fridge door, i think that i may just start on one for February and do a few days at a time so that in theory i can stay in front with things. Think i shall go and have a look at that now before the iron comes out.

Have a super Sunday peeps and i shall pop back later for a [STRIKE]nosy[/STRIKE] catch up :D

Morning. Cold down this way, but not as cold as predicted.
Coffee pot is on and I shall take the dog out to get the paper shortly. They don't open till 8. So it's a bit of a rush then to get back and ready in time for church and read the paper.
No idea what we will be eating today. Somthing with mince in it, I think. Fed up with roasts.
Sales were hopeless yesterday. I wanted some shoes, but the only decent ones were stupid sizes, or rubbish styles.
OH bought a nice Per Una skirt cheap, so that used up my M&S vouchers and freed me up some cash.
Well, have a nice day what ever you are doing

Blimey, that didnt take long at all!!!

Funny how we spend more time THINKING about doing something than actually doing it.

Anyway, plan of aciton today is the kitchen. I want to have a bit of a move around (and sort out), as its got cluttered over the past few weeks and 'feels' uncormfortable in there.

WM will be on at the same time (hope the rain keeps off), and I think fajitas for tea - havent had them for a while and I can make them up, and microwave them when ready to eat.

Anyway - off to make a start.

    Have a great day everyone.
