Only just recovered from the Teen Room. After letting DD1 get away with the squalor for a few months now (end of pregnancy/new baby and I couldn't be bothered to argue!) so after informing her of the big clean date, so allow her time to get it done, I informed her cheerily on Tuesday AM that today was finally the day and anything I deemed rubbish would be chucked.
Bear in mind, she has the smallest bedroom in the world (approx 7ft x 4ft), I managed to get rid of 4 bin bags of carp. All dirty stuff washed and put away and I managed it in one day.
Had to have a new tetnus and oxygen though - LOL!!! Another one sorted.
My room is almost done! Sorted out the dressing table, but I still have the drawers under the bed, DD4's clothes and the airing cupboard. Actually, I may get the airing cupboard done today as its full of OH "needed" clothes (he has about 4x more than me!) as OH is in hospital having an OP on his hip today so will be away for a few days and won't be here to complain! Then again, its playgroup this morning so need to decide if coffee, cake and a chat are more important. Mmmmmm
Glad to see everyone is sorting stuff out. Does anyone else feel good about it? I mean, I don't like to do the actual work and would prefer to "pay a lady wot does", but I am starting to feel great about the end products. Just need to keep on top of it all!0 -

I do feel good when it's done, but it's getting going that's the hardest thing. Once I'm working it's fine, but I can sit looking at a list of things to do for hours without actually doing anything!
Having said that, I'm beginning to see some order in the house. The lid on the washing basket closes now, and I'm keeping on top of the ironing. I finally tackled one of the kitchen cupboards...when we moved we just chucked a couple of unpacked boxes in there. In my defence they were full of kitchen-related things! I still have a box to go through, but I'm of the opinion that if I haven't used it in the past 7 months, then I probably don't need it. The cupboard is much clearer, but could still do with some work.
One bonus of being more organised is that I spent an afternoon with DD yesterday doing fun things - we went for coffee (she had a babyccino), then wandered around the shops. Spent some time in the library - she now has some books for me to read to her, and generally had a good time. Haven't done that for ages.
I've got quite a bit to do in the next hour or so as my sister is coming for lunch...the living room looks like a bombsite, as does the kitchen - still haven't organised the worksurfaces - but if I can just get the junk off the floor, the ironing done and a hoover round I think I'll be OK!
Good to see everyone is getting there.
Take care

Hi ALL
Have been reading this since it started.
I'm hoping you'll let me join as I'm not technically a SAHM as I work part-time. I only do 12.5 hrs a week and thats only during school hours. I have 3 kids, DS1 is 17yrs, DD1 is 15yrs and DS2 is 7yrs. I really need to get organised as we have recently condensed two houses into one and just don't have enough storage. Its hard to tidy stuff away if it doesn't actually have a home! Also everyone in this house is fighting against me and just don't seem to be able to put things back where they got them from. Example- bottle of squash comes out of the cupboard, drink gets made, bottle left on work top. another example- Kids walk in back door put anything in their hands down on the work top and then proceed up the stairs to their room, why can't they take their junk with them???
I work all differnt hrs each week and find it really hard to organise myself. I am really trying hard to keep the place tidy but as soon as the kids are home it looks like I've done nothing. My mom suggested that anything thats left lying about gets consficated and they have to pay a small charge to get it back again? Or if they don't miss it for say a week it gets thrown in the bin!
Any help with tackling the teenagers would be greatly appreciated as they're the main culprits. They don't even make their beds or put clean washing away unless I get really cross.
Sorry its been such a waffle but I need help as its really getting me down.

Hello Weeze!
Your Mum has a good idea - hide it and see if they want/need it.
With our eldest DD, we get her up to finish odd jobs. She has a habit of only half finishing things - ie the washing up. Its her only "job" in the house, but will wash up and leave the sink with water and cutlery in it. So we wait until we go to bed to remind her. That can be anything from 9pm to 2am... One night she hadn't done the washing up at all, so OH went and woke her every half hour from 10pm onwards. By 2pm he declared that there was lots of recorded stuff he needed to watch, had several beers in the fridge and wasn't tired, so could keep this up all night. She did the washing up then.
Now... You would think she would learn, wouldn't you? Nope. Its an on-going battle that I think sometimes, that she is doing on purpose. The difficult bit I find is to keep smiling over it and not getting cross, cos then she has "won". And I only have 1 teen in the house at the moment.0 -
I'm having a meltdown. My dd (1) keeps waking up every 2 hours through the night for no apparent reason , I go through give her a quick cuddle and a sip of water if a cuddle doesn't work and she goes down for another 2 hours, but I get back into bed and feel so cold it takes me ages to warm up and get back to sleep then she wakes me again. I feel like such a zombie. I have just been looking for cheap hotel breaks on the internet I am so desperate for 6 straight hours:rolleyes: I can go back for a nap during the day when she naps, but I don't want to do that because nothing gets done and an hour here and there just does not replace good quality sleep. Tonight when she cries I will go through to reassure her but not pick her up, then let her cry for 5 mins, then 10 mins ..... Does that sound like a good idea????
She seems to just have developed a really bad habit.
On the topic of organisation, I got a book from the library yesterday called "the ultimate book of organizing hints and tips by Cassandra Kent. It seems really good. Some obvious things but lots of good ideas and a lot of storage suggestions that are very "make do and mend" style so great for MSEers
I am off to put a soup in the SC and tackle my mammoth ironing pile (I know, I know, I should leave itbut I've left it too long and everything is very crushed) *big sigh*:(

Lala - What I'm thinking is if you're cold getting back to sleep could this be the reason why your DD is waking up? Stick an extra blanket on her maybe? Or she could be coming down with something? My DD always seems to have a couple of rough nights before she starts with a cold. Is she hungry, maybe see if she'll have an extra snack tomorrow? If I was really desperate for sleep as a complete last resort I'd give my DD a bit of medised, just to settle her, please don't have a go
. Controlled crying never really worked for me, but DD was a pretty good sleeper but she did/does have her moments.
On a last note, try sticking your ironing in the dryer for 10 mins, this should get most of the creases out, although I have to rely on other people for this tip as I don't have a TD :rotfl:0 -
Girl Least Likely to - thank you so much for your suggestions. I have had a good night's sleep at last :j We usually leave our dd's door open a bit so we can hear her (she doesn't mind it closed...it is closed at naptimes) but last night I shut it
I can hear her with it shut and we are just in the next room but I didn't hear a peep out of her all night, either it muffled the sound of her crying (which I doubt) or she sleeps better with it shut  Aaaaah 7 straight hours, lovely!

Lala - So glad you got a good nights kip :j . I dread to think how I'm gonna cope with a new babys sleepless night again, why do we put ourselves through it  ?
Today is catch up day for me. My mum has had her op and me and dad are going at 4pm to see her or pick her up if she's ok to come home. DD is with MIL and I'm playing scrabble on facebook inbetween catching up. So looking forward to a lie in tomorrow, my sleeping pattern is getting better, maybe the baby is lying a different way
.
I'm hoping to get everything done so we can chill out this weekend, and I can visit me mum.

Lala glad you got a better nights sleep! I think thats whats wrong with my dd, she is used to going to sleep with the door shut but her sister is scared of the dark! So we have to now have the door open and so she doesnt go to sleep very well........but if i shut the door her sister will be sooo scared so not sure whats best to do?!?!?!
Today i have been to toddlers this morning with dd2 which was nice and then had lunch and put her for a nap as we have dd1s friend coming for tea so dont want a grumpy dd. I had planned to get on with some sorting and housework while she is asleep but im sitting on the sofa watching recorded eastenders:eek: so not being very good but im soo tired thought i better regain some energy before the friend comes for tea as i bet they will all be soo excited and running riot!!!lol
Hope everyone else is getting on ok with there orgainsing!! My house is looking a lot better since i joined this and the flylady thread (still not prefect but im sure it will never be with kids!!) still got lots of plans for sorting and organising things like the dreeded understairs cupboard and also the bit for the baby.......
