SAHM's getting organised in 2009!

I am a SAHM to 6 children aged 11yrs to 4m and *really* need to get myself organised too so please add me to the list. We've recently moved from a big town to the countryside and finding planning/shopping a struggle as we're too used to being able to pop to 24hr asda/tesco when needed and now our nearest asda/tesco and big town are a 45min drive away!
been thinking of trying www.motivatedmoms.com as they have a printable checklist you can buy and download that includes chores and decluttering/organising/etc. Its only $8 for the year or you can download the free 2002 ebook which has a years worth of checklists (just the dates aren't right) http://www.motivatedmoms.com/2002-Book.pdf
oh and does anyone know for definite how long you need to keep different paperwork for? We have boxes and boxes of the stuff (inc all DH payslips and bank statements since he left school!) but not sure what we need to keep and how long for. We have paperwork/bills for houses and cars we don't even own anymore. I'm desperate to have a good sort out but too scared we'll throw out something we might need later
thanksMum of 7 (aged 14y to 1y)
loving SW - 5st off and counting! :j0 -
Cor, I dont' know about you ladies, but after all the hard graft I've put in the last couple of days my back is killing me ... had to sit on the sofa for at least two hours this evening, drinking tea and eating biscuits.
of course, I washed my plate and cup up straight awayThat's Numberwang!0 -
Been fairly productive today got most daily tasks done, and went for a 7 mile walk! Eeeek! Didn't mean to just got a bit lost.
I think that more than makes up for no walk yesterday.....in fact I could prob miss a few days!
LO had a long nap in her buggy so that was good.
Unfortunately me trying to go to bed before 11 hasn't worked but my dad is visiting so I've got an excuse for tonight.
Keep up all the hard work- I think we've def earned a biscuit- or two!0 -
Lol, I was doing my walk in the museum yesterday... DD loved it she was running around like a headless chicken and we asked her to look for dogs in the paintings... a free activity that everyone loved!
I am so tired the little one keeps getting up at 5! Argh...
OK, of to wash the breakfast dishes, am dressed as well and then will dress the little one!0 -
Right, I'm up early.
Panicking slightly that we left the rabbit out last night as I've just seen the SNOW
Am up to date with my jobs for today; am going to attempt to wash carpets but will they dry in this weather???That's Numberwang!0 -

How often do you change your bedding?
I will be the first to admit that sometimes I go a month without changing it!
DD's cot though I change once a week or sometimes more..
I have always changed in once a week but lately I have been doing it once a fortnight because it is so hard to get it dry at the moment without a TD and the weather being, well, wintery:rolleyes: so I can't hang it out. Plus I figure we don't sweat as much in the cold winter months.

Just put some cobs on, washed up big pots from last night dinner, emptyed dishwasher, made DH packed lunch and i'm sitting down for 10 mins with a hot milk as DD1&2 are still in bed (they are back to school tomorrow).
Today i need to:
Clean and hoover my lounge and dining room.
Clean bathroom as i can't stand it so dirty for any longer.
Do veg and make chicken pie for tea (chicken leftover from yesterday)
Clean a shelf in my fridge (trying to do one a day to catch up)
College work ready for tomorrow
Bath and hairwash for girls (they do most of it themselves now, i just run bath and dry hair for them)
Make lunches for everyone tomorrow (boo hoo-i've had a lovely xmas and i don't want it to end)
Iron (while they are playing in the bath)
I think thats it...wish me luck0 -
Morning everyone!
I'm up and we have eaten but not planning on getting dressed till the house has warmed up a bit!
I've got the washer on (towels today) - can't see what the weather will be like yet cos it's still dark. Hopefully will be able to hang them out for a few hours, and will move them inside to the airer later if I need to!
DH got up and off to work, feels strange cos we are not used to this morning routine. We were on holiday in UK visiting family for first 2 weeks of Dec then after that it was the Christmas break. I've noticed all 6 breadcobs are still in the breadbin so he didn't make himself the packed lunch that he planned! We did buy some 2 litle bottles of coke from Morrisons, about the same price for a 2 litre as he used to pay each day for a 500ml and it should last him most of the week, hopefully! Maybe he'll remember to make a sarnie tomorrow instead of buying whatever expensive thing he usually gets!
Right off to sort out a few from my to-do list before getting dressed!0 -

Welcome to the group  You are on the list
Thank you for the great links....I will have a good read of the free ebook one later and maybe make up my own shortened version (on paper).
Re: paperwork....
I keep bill statements (phone/gas/elec etc) for one year, bank statements for 3 years, pay slips for 5 years.
I also have a really good system for household paperwork (one area that I am organised - after a really good sort out last year :j)
There is an accordian file for all the bank statements/pay slips/bill statements/car ins docs etc So as things come in they can be filed immediately and if we need to find something it can be found immediately. I empty it out every year into cardboard envelopes with elastic bands round them so it is empty at the start of each year.
There is a binder for all the instruction manuals/guarantees for appliances etc in the house so if we need one we know where it will be.
Hope that helps

Morning everyone :hello:
It's been snowing!!!! Have done my list for today, plus I'm following the Flylady thread as well and that's the bathroom today.
Monday things to do:
Weekly shop at Mr T's
Bath DD
Make Doc's appt
put bins out - evening
packed lunches for tomorrow
look into Tot's Time at local Wacky Warehouse
Normal Dailies
WM
Wash up, dry up, put away
fold dry clothes
S&S kitchen
sweep kitchen floor
Will have chicken in the SC shortly so that's dinner sorted so I'll hopefully find time amongst all this to actually sit and play with DD rather than let her play while I race around like a mad thing.
Thanks again for this thread, it really is helping me and I love seeing everyone's posts and getting ideas
Hope you all have productive/fun mornings.. more later!:j "I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." — Marilyn Monroe :j0
