Gutted about this. My BT line (free installation :T) is being installed next Wed (8 May) and I can't order O2 broadband until I have my BT line, which means I'll miss out on this offer by a week :(.

    Good news for you.

This message is now on Quidco:
O2 Home Broadband £70 cashback has been extended in to May.

Just to supplement the excellent work Quentin looks to be doing here helping you all with o2 broadband costs/modus-operandi.

It'll also be worth you looking through the summary I've prepared for a year or so comparing the current 17 differently priced broadband offerings by Telefonica Europe in the UK - ie from their two brands "O2" and "Be" (aka Be Unlimited and Be There).

The latest copy can always be found on the Microsoft SkyDrive server in this directory:
    http://cid-99aa6cf1226facfe.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/o2%20Broadband%20-v-%20Be%20There%20Broadband
It's currently a 4 page Adobe PDF of around 260KB.

It now includes clearer highlighting of key package differentiators and a detailed cost spreadsheet showing packages from a net cost of £1.51/month up to £24/month, which is why you need to inform yourself on the pros/cons of the various options.

Well my BT line was installed (for free :T) on Wednesday as planned and although I had not managed to order the O2 broadband before then, I was able to do so as soon as the BT engineer activated the line around 4pm. I ordered via TopCashback as I was keen to give them a try following Quidco failing to track a recent order I put in.

I then settled myself for an estimated week's wait to get online with O2 but to my pleasant surprise I received an email the next day to inform me that broadband was now up and running :j. The O2 router arrived this morning and I was online soon after (I have a Mac so I did not even have to use the installation disk - just plug everything in, enter my WEP key into my network settings and Bob was my uncle). Whole thing therefore took 1.5 days from ordering the broadband to getting the broadband :T.

Amazed by the speed of my connection too - downloaded a 45-mins TV programme in just 10 mins :D (used to take me 1.5 to 4 hours when I was with BT Broadband  at my previous address).

Well impressed with it so far and from what I can see from the Top Cashback website, the order has been tracked successfully.

I am a very happy broadband user today, thanks to all the great advice and info on this forum. If it had not been for these great deals from BT for line installation and from O2 broadband, I'd still be struggling through with my 0.25 mb/s speed on my Vodafone mobile dongle .

Well done - just a word of caution that WEP is of course the "lowest common denominator" for WLAN security and ideally you should upgrade yourself to WPA2 with a decent length pre-shared-key (ie password) - the o2 box will support it, just check your computer does too.

My line is due to be changed from Virgin to BT on Tuesday. Just hope the £70 cashback lasts until then! Good to know you can order as soon as its activated..thanks!

I just had my BT line process started today. Should be activated. I rang 02 and got them to do an adress search and they said that the exchange is enabled but it is full and they cannot accept more customers in the area? Is this right?

Did you check here to see if O2 have LLU presence in your exchange?

Well clearly if they say that's the case they don't have a reason to lie - they do want as many customers as possible - that's why they are offering amazingly low net costs for those who are MSEs.

It has happened at a few exchanges in the past - eg Southampton - and there are a few E.London exchanges where there isn't any LLU capacity at all for a long time.

    You could double-check two things:
    a) Putting your (new) number into the o2 website and seeing what it offers.
    b) Although o2 share the exchange equipment with their sister company Be, we believe they share in some % rather than being totally flexible; so you MIGHT find o2 have used up their share of the DSLAM, but Be still have a line free. Try your number on the Be site. As you'll see from my features/comparison Be aren't as cheap, but the core product is very very similar.

So they have presumably run out of capacity on your exchange. It may be that even if they want to install more of their own equipment that there is no available space to do so, or BT won't let them have any more space. As MKD says, they want you as a customer but due to their brilliant reputation, they are suffering from their own success in certain areas.
