Thanks Natomar, I need all the luck I can muster at the mo.

I went to see the (DEA) Disability Employment Advisor at my local JCP+ today. He was lovely, guess what, he had someone shadowing him, just took on by the DWP, how ironic lol. To be fair she was lovely too. I got slightly emotional, as my disability has been getting me down of late and I just need to get a job ASAP. He has given me a load of info of people and organisations I can get to help me get back into work and who appreciate I have a disability at the same time, unlike my previous employer of nearly five years who made me redundant earlier this year.

He also said that it told him on the screen I had applied for a job at the DWP for an EO IRC 62504 Birmingham. He asked me what I thought of the process and did Manpower or DWP interview me etc.

I explained it was manpower. I said I had advised them that I had a disability before attending the interview, yet when I arrived they were clueless. A hotel porter had to take me to the interview rooms in the staff lift, what a drama lol. I also told him that there were two very young girls who interviewed me, early 20's at the most, the one couldn't even be bothered to look at me when she asked me the competency questions. He said he was absolutely disgusted and implied that he would pass on my comments. Ooooerrrrrr!

I would just like to take the opportunity to Congratulate all of you who have recently had the call in the last few days, quite a few of you too. Well Done and Celebrate, your patience has been well rewarded.

    Hi Mbcomper

Do you mind if I ask what your disability is? I am lucky in that I am fit and healthy. I hate it when people treat anyone differently. I do not care what disablility someone has they are as good if not better than me. I think you were unlucky in who you got for the interview. I have had in general really nice people to interview me. It does make a big difference I think on your score. One interview I got two people who were not too interested. Old man, white hair, why bother. Hang on I am 57 have been MD of a company and have two degrees. That does not make me better than anyone else but do not judge a book by its cover as the old saying goes. I hope you get what you deserve> A good position in whatever you go for.

    Hi All,

Been following this thread for a while now but first post here.

Congratulations to all who have had "the call" and to Heather on her B & Q appointment. Good luck to those, myself included, still waiting.

Not been waiting as long as most of you on here. My timetable

22/10/09 Lit/Num test and interview same day
29/10/09 Success Letter stating 6 month waiting list
???????? "The elusive call" ???? Who Knows !!

Been out of work since end of September due to redundancy, well unfair dismissal which I am pursuing but that's another story!!, but no redundancy pay as less than 2 years service unfortunately. Was in same position 12 months ago as well. Not a good place, especially with Christmas and kids with lists for Santa. My youngest told me not to worry about getting him presents because Santa would still bring him gifts anyway !! Out of the mouths of babes eh......Bless....:A

Take care everyone and will keep you all updated.

    xx
    Hi Kingy 44,

Welcome, we'll budge up on the bench so you can sit with us.

I too have applied for an EO position, not the same IRC mind. However, my letter says the waiting list is for 12 months not 6??

I had my test 14/9 and interview 16/9, so not too long before you, very strange that you are only on a 6 month waiting list, I wonder why?

I too was made redundant unfairly in May 2009, if you need any help or just wanna chat and get things of your chest you are quite welcome to PM me, I may be able to help you, as I have applied to an employment tribunal. Sorry to hear of your unfortunate news, It's awful when kids get affected too.

Keep your chin up, I too felt really low for months, thankfully I had people I could talk to who motivated me to get back out there and turn things around for the better.

Good Luck & God Bless xx

I was just quoting what I'd been told by the manager at the JCP I'd applied for and also had subsequently received in a letter from DWP that because of the merging of BDC and CCD that there would not now be any jobs available working in these areas. Do what I did and contact the place you were going to work at and ask to speak to a manager. One way or another it will put your mind at rest.

I'm still awaiting something back from my local MP with regards to this whole sorry mess and as soon as I hear anything I will post it on here. My only hope is that as I was first on the merit list somebody retires/gets a better job etc etc, not holding my breath though

Congrats to the two unluckies, guess a change of name is in order now ;)

    Best wishes

    Sparky

Hi Sparky, thanks very much for that. I also read ages ago, just to add to the situation, not only was the job I went for in a BDC but it was also as an AA which I read ages ago weren't being recruited anymore. Nightmare!!

I'm going to have a look for the number and will ring them, hopefully they won't be funny about me ringing as technically I haven't been waiting a long time, only got my CRB back about a month or so ago.

Good luck in hearing off your MP, really hope something is said/done about it as fair enough there might not be the vacancies that were advertised due to business need etc but not telling people who have been waiting ages like youself is just disgusting!! I'm near the top of the waiting list apparently too but as it's AA grade, I'm guessing there won't be much need for me.

Thanks again for your help, hope to hear what your MP says soon and good luck with looking for other jobs.

    Hi Whiskeyman

No, I do not mind saying what my disability is, I have spinal arthritis. This has been compounded from two serious car accidents. I also have arthritis in both hands, this doesn't assist me much when using my crutch.

My mom and my nan both have/had rheunatoid arthritis, my mom told me that it was hereditary. However, I have always been optomistic and thought it may miss me out. I'm nearly 40 and in the last 2.5 years I feel like I have aged another 20 years.

I just find it very embarassing and emotionally destroying having to explain to people, especially at interviews that I have a disability. I feel that they are impressed with me at the outset, they congratulate me on my cv etc. and when I tell them I have a disability the mood changes drastically - so much for equal opportunities.

This is the main reason why I applied for an EO role with the DWP. I applied to a large Union who were supposed to be Disabled Friendly Employers, I never even received a reply. I had an interview yesterday, they said they would let me knowby the end of the week. They also gave me an application form after the interview - strange! I'm supposed to fill it in and return it, I'll wait for the call first and take it from there as I am sick of wasting my time.

    Hi All,

    I just got the call.
    Start 30th November.

I was originally for IRC61866 but it was for a post with a BDC (which we know are no longer recruiting) so I was placed on a list and just received the call today.

    My preferred location.

It's my birthday today so it's just made my day.
    Hi Unluckyone

Congrats on receiving the call at long last and please accept a Belated Happy Birthday from me too.

  • well my 1st 2 days have been eventful, we have learnt why we do not look for santa claus on the system, why our smart card is god, and where the canteen is , although my 1st day was terrible as my car broke down and was an hour late, not a good start, met some really nice ppl and have more or less decided to take the front facing position offered not the other one, the benefits for working for DWP grow and grow by the day as well as the free physio and counselling etc we had home baked cookies today, got to get ur priorities right ay lol, good luck to all those waiting and welcome on board Ponty xx
    Hi all!
Exhausted after my first day (been awake since 5am in anticipation lol!). Really nice office with lovely people who couldn't do enough to be welcoming, friendly and helpful. Already had my invitation to the xmas staff "do" (all paid for by B & Q), my new desk, computer, yukky polo shirts and fleece were delivered first thing.

So glad you are both liking your jobs, sounds like you've both settled right in . Also, get well soon Sammy!!

Hey rocking dad, congrads can i ask wether this was for irc61505 and if so do you know where u were on the merit list????
Congrads again and hopefully we may all hear something soon.

Congratulations from me too. I've been watching this thread for a while but only just got around to registering. I too am waiting on IRC 61505 and spoke to a lady on Monday from the East of England office, who said that this particular recruitment exercise ends on the 1st of March, so hopefully I'd hear something before then. Apparently I'm 26th on the merit list out of a hundred and something, but that was for the whole of the essex exercise, not just southend recruitment, so I could potentially be right at the bottom of the list.

I went into the Jobcentre on Monday also with regards to something else, and the fellow I spoke to there said that they'd had intake this week and were expecting more the week after and they were from a February recruitment as far as he knows.

So basically don't worry, you're not alone in having no clue what's going on with this IRC. A friend of mine applied for this reference too and was successful also (according to the letter), and I haven't heard anything from him recently so I assume he hasn't heard anything either. Either that or he's secretly working there, but hasn't told me because he feels guilty about it!

I'll keep posting if I hear anything more (or continue not to).

You have almost the identical timeline to myself - i am still waiting for "the call" but have no idea about my merit list position
  • Just applied to another EO IRC close-ish to where I live.
Might as well, just for backup.
