    Congratulations Leeous

Hope all goes well. Bet you are looking forwards to it. It did not take that long.

Thanks. Have been unemployed since September 2008, so needed a shot in the arm, like getting this EO position. Hope it all works out for you and the others who are still waiting.

    Hi Whiskeyman

No, I do not mind saying what my disability is, I have spinal arthritis. This has been compounded from two serious car accidents. I also have arthritis in both hands, this doesn't assist me much when using my crutch.

My mom and my nan both have/had rheunatoid arthritis, my mom told me that it was hereditary. However, I have always been optomistic and thought it may miss me out. I'm nearly 40 and in the last 2.5 years I feel like I have aged another 20 years.

I just find it very embarassing and emotionally destroying having to explain to people, especially at interviews that I have a disability. I feel that they are impressed with me at the outset, they congratulate me on my cv etc. and when I tell them I have a disability the mood changes drastically - so much for equal opportunities.

This is the main reason why I applied for an EO role with the DWP. I applied to a large Union who were supposed to be Disabled Friendly Employers, I never even received a reply. I had an interview yesterday, they said they would let me knowby the end of the week. They also gave me an application form after the interview - strange! I'm supposed to fill it in and return it, I'll wait for the call first and take it from there as I am sick of wasting my time.

Hi mb, so sorry to hear about how you have been treated in the past, thats not fair.
Don't give up hope though as where i sign on there are great facilities for all sorts of disabilities in the work place. There are desks that allow wheelchair space for one person and i have noticed that there are at least 3 people that need either walking sticks or crutch's, this is all on the ground floor so i know DWP have their faults  but i think they are disabled friendly. I will keep my fingers crossed for you though.
  • I finally got round to emailing them - and found out my merit list position (Im hoping there are lots of jobs and noone wants it in my area ;) )

Do the Pre-Recruitment checks include the references or are they done after?
  • Thanks to all for the congrats; it's been a long wait, given my interview was back on August 4th, although that seems one heck of a lot less time waiting than some of us.
By the way, my IRC was 61509 for EO roles, and I believe 61505 is the AO equivalent, so let's hope those waiting to hear on that will get that call soon.
If it helps, I started out at 46 on a merit list, then moved up to joint 29th after a lot of phone calls and emails, so hang on in there, keep reminding Newcastle that you're still there, and...good luck! I'll be staying in touch.
  • Hi everyone!!

I am new to this and thought I would share my story so far!

Applied for IRC62504 EO back in August

    September 15th: L&N testing

    September 18th: Interview

October 21st: Letter of success received explaining pre-employment checks will be carried out

October 27th: Called DWP contact number on letter asking about start dates/timescales etc, to be told I was number 15 out of 128 on the list and that there were a large number of EO vacancies in the Birmingham area (I cant remember how many he said now) and that the chances of me receiving an immediate start date would be high as I was in the first 20.

November 14th: Received CRB from DWP

Today: Have just called same number that I called on October 27th (spoke to a different person), to be told that the details of all people on the merit list have been sent to the business area and that she has no idea when I will be given a start date or when that date will be. She said that no one on the merit list for the IRC62504 EO positions have been employed yet!

I sort of wish I hadn't called now as my phone call to them a few weeks back was more positive and now I feel a little daunted again by this whole waiting malarky! All I can do is wait now with fingers tightly crossed!

    Hi Cap123

Thank you for your support and kind wishes. I have worked continuously for the last 24 years, so sitting at home is not doing anything for me at the moment, just making my symptoms worse.

Yes, I have been treated unfairly in the past and this has now made me more than apprehensive as I do not want to experience the same again.

Yes, the DWP do seem a friendly lot and I really hope I do get a job with them. However, I was 96/125 and have now recently moved to 68. I am not sure how many EO's they need for Birmingham. I wish now I had applied for the AO position too, I may have stood more of a chance getting in the door and could have progressed from there. Fingers xd though, I'll wait with the rest of you and be optomistic lol.

After seeing the DEA yesterday, I've got some numbers to call now, so hopefully according to the DWP they have some very good people out there who can assist me with a placement and assess my needs properly, prior to me taking a role elsewhere.

    Good Luck Everyone!

Thanks Natomar, I need all the luck I can muster at the mo.

    Hi mbcomper
Sorry to hear of your nightmare interview! I have heard a few stories about manpower! interviews are bad enough without people being rude! you must have made a good impression though as you were successful ;) Mine was a lady from capita & a DWP employee and I must admit they were really nice, not had a interview for 15yrs so was really nervous, but they did put me at ease!
I know we all on here are fed up with the fiasco, but its a good place to get it off your chest and also to share others good fortune, people like Heather & you have given good advice and kind words to so many on here, and you know what they say "what goes around" so to quote whiskyman "I too hope you get what you deserve a good position in whatever you go for" really, really hope you get the call soon! fingers crossed xx

    Hi Amy

Welcome, thanks for posting your details!

I too have applied for the same IRC62504 EO Birmingham. Congratulations on being 15/128. I went for my N+L test 14/9 and interview 16/9 at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Sutton Coldfield.I am currently 68 on the list, I must call again for an update.

I was told originally I was 67/91, then 96/125 then I was told about three weeks ago that they had approved 28 from the top of the list for employment, so this brought me to position 68. So to be honest, I don't think they have a clue themselves lol.

I do know that my letter said I was on a waiting list for 12 months. I was also told by Newcastle that they do not process the CRB checks until they get the call from the Business Centre saying how many people they require, so I do not think you'll be waiting too long now. It might be that you get a start date in the new year.

You are only the third person I have seen on this forum who has applied for IRC 62504. So the more information the better, please keep us posted with any further developments.

    Thanks for posting your info!

    Hi All,

    I just got the call.
    Start 30th November.

I was originally for IRC61866 but it was for a post with a BDC (which we know are no longer recruiting) so I was placed on a list and just received the call today.

    My preferred location.

It's my birthday today so it's just made my day.
