Booked for 2 wks in July. School hols:rolleyes:
Haven't booked anything else yet. With the uncertainties at the moment. dh is self employed and the euro exchange rate; I'll be holding off pre-booking anything else.
This year we've been away 5 times, can't see that next year.

We're going to Majorca for a week in May; myself, my hubbie and three year old son. We booked some cheap flights and a beachfront apartment seperately so felt we got a good deal - cheaper than the last time we went in May 07. Obviously the Euro will impact our spending, but I think we can still have a lovely time. Picnics on the beach rule :j
  • Didn`t book anything this year thanks to this site and the warning of credit crunch. Had to go to Majorca for 5 days as eldest who took ill and ended up in hospital. We have been to Center Parcs for a few days last week but still daren`t book anything until I know I won`t get made redundant. If still employed and all looks rosey around June then will book something for around Oct or Dec 2009.

We can only go away as a family during school/university breaks, and it's hard to find dates that coincide - I teach during all the half-terms, and it looks like August is going to involve exams/exam boards, not something I'm happy about. So long as that can be sorted out, the plan this year is:

right now: a week in Scotland, staying in a cottage rather than with ILs. This was a luxury but it means the children go to granny's on their own for a few days. Bliss (didn't get up till late!).
OH will bring children up to Scotland for a week in the May holidays, stay with rellies

The real holiday ... We have booked holiday club for 4 weeks so will have to take 2 weeks off in August. I put my money from my 'second job' to pay for it, and if I discount tax, that means a budget of around £1700. Not sure where we'll go, originally I thought UK because of Euro and fears about airlines, but the cost of suitable accommodation is very high and I'm not sure it's really much cheaper. We prefer a house, minimum of three beds, garden, and handy to sea or a private pool. Must have washing machine (disabled child). It's a lot of money but (a) sun and swimming are good for the soul and (b) cos of oh's parkinsons, we're not sure how many more years of driving he has left, I want to make the most of having a driver while he can! (I don't). A bit less in the savings account may be well worth it.
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600
    Overpayments to date: £3000
    June grocery challenge: 400/600

Was watching Sky news this morning whilst eating my breakfast and every advert seemed to be for holiday companies/destinations.
I wondered to myself how many holiday companies/airlines will go bust this year.

Lots of holiday companies will go to the wall this year I predict. The pound has dropped by 25% against the dollar and the Euro (and trade weighted too) and so their costs have risen commensurately as most of their costs are in foreign currency.

Holiday prices should shoot up this year.

I'm having my summer holiday right now of course. The only trouble is, I wish I was working.

You and me both, then maybe, just maybe, I could afford a nice holiday for the children.

Had my normal weekly check on the local county council website yesterday and they had the grand total of 57 jobs available over the entire county (I have to look on the County website as they have the education jobs)...the majority of which I could not go for, the ones left, I had already applied for, so no new applications this week.

    Grrrrrr
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is absolutely amazing. You will have a fantastic time. It does rain a lot but the scenery is still lovely when it is, so long as you have decent waterproofs it'll be fun.

For a variation on a theme- especially if you've got kids - I can also recommend walking Hadrian's Wall.

I've cycled the South Downs Way and Thames Path and can highly recommend both.

Oh well, good luck to you.

I'm seriously considering becoming an Army reservist to bring some cash in.
