Summer holidays - will you be having one?

Was watching Sky news this morning whilst eating my breakfast and every advert seemed to be for holiday companies/destinations.
I wondered to myself how many holiday companies/airlines will go bust this year.

Will you be booking a summer holiday this year? 218 votes

Yes, but we'll be cutting down on the number of times or cost of destination

  • Not a chance.....my holiday fund had paid for heating this winter
  • We're going to Cuba 25th Jan for two weeks, third time to Cuba.

They are an example we should look at.....they have a very austere carry on but are lovely, happy people on the whole. We always take 'stuff' to leave behind as they can't buy luxury items even if you tip money as they don't import luxury goods.

  • We're (hopefully) going to the Maldives in Feb.

There isn't an option in the poll for "never usually take holidays but are this year".

We've been to Cornwall recently but I could count the number of holidays I've had over the past fifteen years on the fingers of one hand.
  • ...And one of them was to Cuba. I loved it too.

We'll be making our biennial trip to California to visit the in-laws, which is more or less obligatory. Flights (even out of season) are expensive despite the BA-Virgin price war, but we do get free accommodation once we're there.

Other than that, it'll be a bit of camping in Cornwall or Wales, which is my cup of tea anyway.

Sorry, I can't see how to edit the actual poll, even under advanced

We will have our usual hols - hopefully a bit of £9 Travelodging too. I always look for bargains - our last two holidays to Austria cost £424 and £730 for all 4 of us, flights and accomodation.

There is a lot of talk of cheap hols available, but I haven't seen any yet. I suspect the Euro/Pound rate plus a reduction on capacity will mean there aren't that many bargains in package hols, though hotel rooms might be cheap due to reduced demand.

I don't plan to take summer holidays or any holidays like my other self employed family members. It's a case of if we know a month or so ahead we can take a holiday we take one.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I guess I've been real lucky. In the last year I've been to 15 countries, and a different Country in each month, mainly due to cheap flights with the Budget Airlines. I'm off to Jamaica and Antigua in Feb, but that will probably be it for the year. I'm quite happy to spend two or three years traveling around the UK for holidays. A few of us are renting a cottage in Pembrokeshire in May, and tackling the Pembrokeshire coastal path. It'll be fun and I'm really looking forward to it.
  • With the wife due in March, I do plan to wisk here away somewhere nice in the summers that is baby friendly and she can get a bit of pampering and relaxation.

Probably will be choosing somewhere relatively local that we can drive to.

She quite likes here which is only a 3 hour drive
