Yes I do but then I only ever holiday in the UK.....I have no idea about holidays out of this country.

5 years ago, a comparable caravan at the site we go to was around the £500 mark for 2 weeks, now it is closer to the £1k.

For me it seems really expensive because I have had the free use of a caravan from my parents for the last few years, they own a static caravan on a holiday site in Great Yarmouth...plus 1k seems an awfully huge sum of money to spend on a holiday, I could feed and clothe the children for months on that.

Wow, that is quite a difference. Didn't realise that was the case. 1k does seem quite a bit for a caravan holiday. We travel without kids (we don't have any so it'd be very weird if we did...) so that brings down the cost of holidays quite a bit. And obviously there's no kids to pay for during the rest of the year too either: so more holidays!

Downside is that we currently have no one to wipe up our drool and find a good home for us when we're ancient.

I'm not keen to 'book' anything in advance as I think things are likely to change quickly in the coming months!

We will be scaling it right down and going back to short notice camping in the UK if the weather is any good next year (pray for us!!)... Luckily in Norfolk we have the sea and forest close by so we'll be making the most of it in 2009.... lots of short weekend breaks are often better than longer ones I find...

    I like camping anyway! :D

Lots of lucky people on here flying away somewhere hot ... I'm not really jealous!!!

And just to p*ss you all off we're going to pay for it via a credit card .....

Very wise to put it onto CC - just in case your carrier goes bust. Have a good time. ;)

Yeah that is the only thing with going away anywhere that charges for children, especially now my eldest is 15 as he is more often than not charged as an adult (some places even class my 12 year old as an adult!).

I could always lend you mine to mop up that drool....for a modest fee of course! :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I have book our one and only holiday this year today. We are going to Lake District with Haven about £300 for week self catering Easter school hols. My oldest is 5 and we have never been away as a family so this is our first family holiday ever. We will be away for my birthday so can't wait.

I remember holidaying in the UK when I was little and always had a great time so it won't hurt my kids not to go abroad for a few more years.

Very true! It's been sorted on our American Express card. Was paid off in full, 5% cashback and, as you say, it's hopefully covered the flights.

Mind you, does Amex come under that cover?

Sounds ace. I live about 100 miles from the Lake District and have been once on a day trip. Bit shameful really.

Must admit that one of the bank holidays we will probably go to my parents caravan (with them there too) for a wee visit...the wee visit usually turns into an overnight stay where I just happen to have overnight things (plus swimming costumes, change of clothes etc) in the car and we end up staying the night and most the next day too.

Parents haven't quite worked that one out yet........ :D

    Already booked ours.

5* all inclusive in July......mind you, by the time it comes around, I think anywhere would be better than here. It's just depressing.
