    Here's my story now...

I finally had chance to pop into my local Barclays to show them2 forms of I.D that i was told to show by letter.

Now the person has photocopied the documents and told me to send them off but silly me forgot to ask for the address i send it to doh! anyone give me the address, i take it it's the Dudley one?

Final thing, do i have to make sure the back of the Barclays application form is filled in? the bit where it says monthly income/monthly expenditure??

Once done i take it i just follow the original terms and conditions to claim my £100 (hopefully)

my understanding of that bit is that you only have to fill this section in if you applying for an overdraft. I wasn't did not fill the section in and my account is open
  • newfoundglory, carry on.. complain. I wrote official complaint (with dates, copies of letters/emails) and faxed to local bank.. they then passed it on to "Retail Banking Customer Relations". theres also a link here to complaints http://www.barclays.co.uk/contact_us/leaflet.html

    frustrating' or what!

.............seems I've been accepted for the account offer and was asked to take my id to the local branch where I was told that they would not accept my driving licence because it has "duplicate" on it. No amount of explanation helped. My letter of complaint is in the post

Why cannot understand that one ,duplicate means the same ,what was the problem ,complain and ask for a good-will gesture for the inconvenience, they made an error ,and they should compensate you

  • My experience is as follows.

Applied on the day I got Martins email, then about 1 week later got the form back asking me to go to Barclays branch with ID.

As I'm not able to get to a branch all week I planned it in for the sat Jan 28th.

I got a lift into town and my wife was waiting on double yellows etc..

Went into the branch, queued up at the counter only to be told I need to see the business manager

There was no-one waiting to see the business manager so I asked if she could help, so far so good.

She then looked at my ID (Passport and Driving licence).

Immediately found fault that my Passport had Andy and my DL had Andrew, unacceptable she said. I complained that she was being over fussy etc but she would have none of it. My form had Andrew and because the PP had Andy she could not accept.

I returned on the following Friday afternoon, this time I took my DL (With Andrew) as my primary form of ID and a Utility bill (with Andrew) as my secondary form of ID.

It was busy in the branch, when I got to see the business manager, she recognised me and was all over me like a rash, ranting on about my PP and DL being different. I advised her of the two forms of ID I had with me today, but she insisted I must have my passport as a Primary.

I showed the letter to her and she piped down (DL can be either a Primary or Secondary form of ID but not used twice).

She then said that the form I had would need to be re-entered into the computer and that she was too busy. I again reminded her that all I was doing was to validate my account opening, but she was adamant. She then told me it would be at least a week before I could get an appointment.

I then complained to her manager, she was as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I then left the branch and logged a complaint on the 0500 number.

They clarified that I was doing everything right, and were very helpful.

I then went into a smaller branch rather than the town centre one, she told me she did not have a business manager, but I asked her to photocopy the ID and letter and send off to Leicester. She duly obliged.

5 days later I had an account number and sort code, quickly followed by the connect card and cheque book etc. I enrolled for online banking and have both deposited £1000 and withdrawn £999 so far.

I'll wait till this time next month to do the same.

Barclays definately realised that they made a balls up with this deal and have then put out a memo to be obstructive to the branches, this goodwill gesture will have had a negative effect with so many unhappy new customer bad mouthing them.

Having just read the posts on the previous pages, I realised I missed a trick and could have opened one in the wifes name too, but hey ho...

Why not keep one pound in this account instead of closing it ( having grabbed your 100 quid)? That way we continue to screw Barclays as it will cost them money to administer. As its a current account it shouldnt affect your credit rating should it. Comments???

I have the same Q as Sir Peter .... PRECISELY when must we make the 2 x 1000 quid deposits ...... 30 days apart? or on the same date e.g the 18th of the month? ....so many days after on-line application etc. etc.
HELP MARTIN PLEASE - I would HATE Barclays to find a loophole to avoid shelling out.

I too have been wondering about timing of the 2 x 1k deposits, not least because since applying for the account, and getting it, I have had no acknowledgment from Barclays setting out the terms of the special offer. It is just as if I am any bog standard customer applying for a current account. So how do I know that I will actually get £100 credited to my account around Easter time. Could all this hassle be for nothing?

I have made a payment a couple of days a go after recieving bank details and being able to get on line with barclays (It doesn't look like a really user friendly site). I am going to make another in 30 days. Then if the £100 does not materialise I am going to do what I like best, complain and write a snotty letter. If anyone thinks I should time my payments differently please let me know
