oscarhugo wrote:Yes, but it's easier [hopefully] to do it from the 'comfort of your computer chair' than to waste time standing in a queue in a Barclays branch. Unless, of course there's a wonderful girl to serve you... In which case that's another matter entirely.
My profuse apologies for trying to be helpful!!0 -
Applied on Jan18th.
Received and email on jan23rd saying there was a delay.
Received a later on Jan26th requesting ID
Went into local branch on Feb3rd with ID. Specifically asked if qualified for the £100 cashback. Hung around a while while help chap was on phone checking things out. He was holding a 2 page internal memo on the subject.
He said I was not eligible as computer system stated I had applied on Jan25th.
This was a nonsense as they emailed me on Jan23rd saying there was a delay.
I wrote a complaint stating all the various times (e.g when applied, copy of emails, letters etc)
Today a week later I recieved an email from the customer relations crowd saying I would get the £100 as long as I did the x2 1000 deposit thing.
Looking forward to the £100...cheers barclays0 -
I tried opening the Barclays account online on the 18th but I guess due to the amount of people applying it kept kicking me out and taking me back to the first screen. The following morning (19th Jan) around 8.30am I tried again and it worked and my application was a success.
On the 24th Jan I got the email saying 'due to a huge response etc...they will take a little longer to process my application'.
Today 10th Feb I phoned them to find out why I haven't heard anything, they then told me they hadn't recieved my application. Apparently there is no record of me applying for the account?!?!?! I complained saying I can't understand how that can be because I had an email which I've still got saying they would contact me within 10 days about my application. I was told by Barclays to write a complaint which I've done.
The impression I get is that they are fobbing me off, and I wondered if anyone else has had the same experience?

I have just paid my first £1000 in after all the messing of actually trying to open it I have kept to all the T & C 'S so I can't see how they can get out of not paying me the £100 , time will tell tho.
When the man phoned me this morning to tell me my account was opened and to give me my account number I started quizzing him on the rumoured new savings account Barclays are starting ,telling him how interested I am in it.He said its all hush hush at the moment and everyones sworn to secrecy But its going to be a very high interest account , they are not getting given the actual figures until its press release on Wednesday, you have to have £1000 paid into your current account every month to be eligible for the new regular saver and you can only have the account for a year.
He's not very good at keeping secrets is he :rotfl:Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
I took all of my id along with the form that i was sent to my local Barclays yesterday so i could open the account.
The only problem i had was that they said i could not have a switch card to go with it as i failed the credtit scoring!?!?. I have never been turned down for anything or had any bad credit against me so this makes no sense but they gave me an electron card instead!
Put my first £1000 in by cheque so will just have to wait and see what happens!Nice to save.0 -
There seems little doubt that Barclays are being deliberately obstructive in the branches, and setting little traps for the unwary. My wife was told that she would have to wait half an hour to see anyone (and then when she stuck around they grudgingly saw her quite quickly). Having asked what ID to bring she was told that she had incorrect ID, and so on. Incidentally, she was never contacted to ask for ID but had to phone in today (day 28) when she was told what to do.
The general response was apparently quite hostile, and they also did ask her what kind of account she wanted which I fear may have been a leading question to allow Barclays to claim she had applied for a different account during the visit and hence not be eligible for the reward. If this is the case they are in for trouble.
I would love to see the 2 page internal memo - I suspect this could be absolute dynamite. Any moles about?0 -

Roll on Wednesday then, I'd quite fancy a 10% or higher regular saver, even at the expense of having to play musical chairs with £1,000 every month (via standing order). Don't think I'd bother below 10%.
I have just withdrawn my first lot of £1,000 from Barclays, so am a third of the way there with the £100. Hope it's going well for the rest of you.0 -
Okay, i FINALLY got a response today. But, its TOTALLY different to all other responses written in here!
I had a letter addressed from my closest branch, from this personal banker, asking if I could give them a ring on a given branch number. I had missed some calls on my mobile, during the week, because I was in lectures at uni... but the number was not recognised so I guess it was them.
I suspect since I put student on the application, they are screwing about. Personally, I can no longer be arsed. f**king barclays... looks like they are def trying to wriggle out of this with me, because this would no longer be an online application which breaks the terms and conditions...
I dont think I have made a mistake... i answered all the ID questions correctly at the end of the application, have a totally clean and excellent credit file... hence no rejection. Since I applied on the 18th... its taken a massive 24 days for a response!
So what do i do? Shall i ring the 0500 number and complain that they passed it to a branch? OR... shall I ring this woman up at the branch, and tell her about how I wanted to pocket the free £100!!Suggestions please!!
