    Update on my Barclays saga...

Basically Barclays have 'lost' my application. The 0500 number cannot trace my details yet they have written to me asking to bring in ID to branch... which I did... heard nothing and up until yesterday my photcopied ID was floating around in the system and no-one knew where it was - shocking really.

Thankfully a wonderful girl at my local branch has got involved as a bit of personal crusade - actually rang me 3 times yesterday to update me on her progress! She managed to locate my ID (it had gone all the way to their head office and then back to the branch as they couldn't match it to anything!) Apparantely girl who copied it hadn't followed correct procedure to open the a/c and will be 'spoken to'!!

Problem is there is still no trace of my online application so will have to do another either over the phone or by going in again. Said about £100 offer will this be honoured? Knew nothing about it!!!! What is it with this complete lack of communication surely Barclays staff must know what their offers are even if they are online offers! Anyway said she would spk to her manager - called me back would honour £100 as a loss to the branch as online team refusing to help! She will monitor my a/c personally and ensure the £100 is credited after 2nd mth. Have got her direct number and everything so confident this will happen.Whilst this one member of staff provided me with exemplary service not impressed at all with Barclays as a whole - even the girl at branch kept saying she couldn't believe what had happened and kept apolgising as this wasn't how Barclays 'done things'??!!

Do we all need to buy new hats for the wedding? ( I suppose we can spend our hundred quids on them...)

Same situation for us. They "lost" our application!

We lodged a complaint over 2 weeks ago, but no one has rung back to update us on the progress. They have problem lost our contact details again!

The online account application process seems to have some major problems!
  • You can pay money into the account at any Barclay's branch without the need for a paying in book or passcode. All that's needed is account number and sort code. That's what the literature I received advised.

Yes, but it's easier [hopefully] to do it from the 'comfort of your computer chair' than to waste time standing in a queue in a Barclays branch. Unless, of course there's a wonderful girl to serve you... In which case that's another matter entirely.

My account's now set up and I'm ready to transfer in the first £1000. My question is: If I transfer in the first £1000 tomorrow (and transfer it out again five days later) can I then make the second deposit of £1000 on 1st March, which is in the next calendar month but only 14 working days after the first deposit, or do I have to wait 30 days, or does the second deposit have to be made on or after (but not before) the same day of the month after the first deposit?

I hope my question makes sense! I phoned the Barclays call centre this afternoon and had great difficulty making myself understood to the non-native English speaker who answered.
  • I received the letter requesting ID etc. At the bank the Account Manager fixed me up with the account and overdraft no problem.
When I asked about the £100, she said that she had no idea what I was talking about.
She called a colleague who didn’t know either; in short they tried to put me off.
I insisted she contacted someone to confirm the offer. This she got after two phone calls. She had spent about fifteen minutes waiting on the phone as she asked me more than once if I wanted to continue to wait.
She did confirm though that I would get the £100, after I had made the two £1000 deposits.
    It’s looking good :T

If your first payment arrives in the account on, for example, 14 Feb, I would make sure the second one arrived in the account no earlier than 15 March.

I tried all that, Believe me, they aren't able to think outisde the narrow list of documents they have. The electoral roll doesn't enter into it.

I had no prob with a recent Cahoot Savings account -I suspect yours is also a savings account? The criteria is stricter for current accounts - - as they potentially offer credit/overdraft facilites even though i said i wasn't asking for those.

You are right - my recent openings have been for savings a/cs or I was already known to them - usually from a 0% c/card.
Call me a cynic, but I wonder if Barclays would be so precise if you were trying to open a Branch a/c. If you want to test them and are prepared to waste the time and wouldn't be recognised, might be worth enquiring and would then make good grounds for a serious complaint.
I have been lucky and accepted straight away and now am just waiting for the passcode to be able to do an electronic transfer of the first payment. Roll on April for the £100.

Well we have got all our stuff now. 1000 went into OHs account but had to wait 3 days after requesting transfer to mine quote 'for fraud prevention reasons'.

Also after wondering where my cheque / cash card had got to, I re-read my letter and although OH got one, I didn't. Obviously not trustworthy enough! At least when I come to close the account I'll be honestly able to say it was because I couldn't actually use it for anything!

Took my ID to the Canary Wharf branch yesterday (Bear in mind that this is attached to their new Head Office)

Waited a good 30 mins to see someone. He then said he couldnt find my account - not helped by the fact that my ID request letter had no reference number on it. So he then offered to setup an account for me in branch. I refused this stating that it needed to be an online account to claim my £100. 'What £100' was his response. After I explained it to him, he says 'What, they pay YOU £100?'. Unbelievable. Strangely, he then managed to find my online account.

So, he takes some more details to add to the application. When this is done, he prints the application out. To my amazement, it contains more information than I've supplied. It has a bank account number (not Barclays) from 1995, and also shows that I have two active Barclaycards (these were cancelled and cut up several years ago). Good to see they keep their information up to date and relevant.

Next he tells me that the application will now be credit scored (I'd presumed this had already been done when I applied online?). Anyway, a couple of minutes later, 'computer says no'. He explains that it's highlighted I have a CCJ. So I explained to him it's a single CCJ, from over 5 years ago. He put an appeal in and I should hear today - I wont hold my breath though.

All in all, I was there for just over an hour and wasnt at all impressed. So please, all of you who can, ensure you screw every since penny of that £100 out of those inept ********'s!
