So how do I know that I will actually get £1k credited to my account around Easter time. Could all this hassle be for nothing?

Mmmm 1k would be nice!! I sent them an e-mail and received the terms and conditions but then I'm an awkward !!!!!! who's determined to see this through, come hell or high water!

First 1k travelling back through cyberspace into my PROPER current account as I type..!!
    CHEAP doesn't mean ETHICAL

Ok. Up and running. Paid a cheque in this afternoon. When will it be safe for me to write a cheque the other way? Don't want to have my £100 taken up with overdraft charges or anything!! :o

  • Do you think I'll have to visit the branch when it comes time to close the account or can that be done over the phone?

I had a very uncomfortable 90 minute wait in their hot stuffy branch to finalize opening the account since they had no record of the appointment I had made thru their call centre last week.

I don't think very much of their service at all.
  • Just had all our stuff through for the account, except where the cheque book should be in both our names, it's actually in my husband's name twice - Mr J Smith and Mr J Smith!! Do they think he is married to himself? Even more reason to take their money, don't you think??!!
  • I wouldn't think it was a v.good idea to marry yourself. Not without first sorting out a watertight pre-nup anyway. (Maybe Barclays have some legal eagles who could help).

If you were strong enough to endure 90 mins of hot stuffy branch, you should survive the closing of the account as well. Email or registered letter cancellation should suffice.

But don't jump too quickly - the rumoured high-earning regular saver is due to be annnounced any day, and it could just be good! Along with all the other valued Barclays customers, we should receive advance/timely notice of this account shortly (or so she likes to think )
  • "Why not keep one pound in this account instead of closing it ( having grabbed your 100 quid)? That way we continue to screw Barclays as it will cost them money to administer. As its a current account it shouldnt affect your credit rating should it. Comments??? "
why not keep it open with 0.00 balance - mine opened like that !

I have made a payment a couple of days a go after recieving bank details and being able to get on line with barclays (It doesn't look like a really user friendly site). I am going to make another in 30 days. Then if the £100 does not materialise I am going to do what I like best, complain and write a snotty letter. If anyone thinks I should time my payments differently please let me know

Surely safer to let a full calendar month elapse between payments? So if your Barclays account is credited the first time with 1k on the 15th, then the second 1k should not hit the account until the 15th of the following month (or later). Otherwise Barclays have the perfect opportunity to deny you your £100.
If Barcs would take the trouble to send out out terms and conditions of the offer to all new accountholders, we would know the official answer without having to speculate.
  • Someone said a few days ago to look out for Wednesday and a new Barclays offer linked to current accounts, possibly regular saver thing was implied.

Anyone heard anything ? Nothing on their website.
