  • Exactly the same timeline except I got my application and cheuqe book received today.... I called up CC to ask about my 100 GBP offer and they said that they received my application on 10 FEB !!!! This is start of breach of terms with banking relationship...
no worries it would still cost them to administer a customer for 2 months if they don't pay my 100 pounds !!

I tried opening the Barclays account online on the 18th but I guess due to the amount of people applying it kept kicking me out and taking me back to the first screen. The following morning (19th Jan) around 8.30am I tried again and it worked and my application was a success.

On the 24th Jan I got the email saying 'due to a huge response etc...they will take a little longer to process my application'.

Today 10th Feb I phoned them to find out why I haven't heard anything, they then told me they hadn't recieved my application. Apparently there is no record of me applying for the account?!?!?! I complained saying I can't understand how that can be because I had an email which I've still got saying they would contact me within 10 days about my application. I was told by Barclays to write a complaint which I've done.

The impression I get is that they are fobbing me off, and I wondered if anyone else has had the same experience?

  • If you follow Barclay's logic, you had applied on the 10th Feb, yet you got an email from them about an account on 24th Jan, how can that be ?

How could they have your info ? complain complain complian, if you did apply on line, Barclays will have a record of this on their system.

  • Right said FRED !!
But there is no proof to anyone (except the mail we have received on 24 Jan) that we applied when the offer was ON as there was no acknowledgement mail from the bank that YES you applied when the offer was there... it's just for people who know that they did...the T&C don't mention the offer at all so that makes our case weak !!!

The system is their property and they can play anyway with it they want... esp. to save the money they need to pay out ....

Any suggestion how we can beat Barclay's in their own game ??
    Cheers,

I just spoke to a human being on the Barclays freefone line!!! :kisses:

He's left me feeling all optimistic, mmmm probably just about time to fall on my face then!!

Sent them an e-mail and got an immediate reply saying that I was talking to the wrong dept and needed the account opening team..

For further information please call our Account Opening Team. They are

OK, so I just called. He said that if I opened the a/c when it was still being advertised on the website that £100 would be automatically credited to my a/c 28 days after the second £1000 had been paid into my account. He even said that I could withdraw the first £1000 and pay it back in again (NO.... Reallly!!)

So I'm happy now - still got to wait and see tho!!

sorry but what has this got to do with the Barclays £100 account? the 10% account is completely different...

What it's got to do with it is this .....

Most people opened the £100 Barclays account with the intention of closing it as soon as the £100 bonus had arrived safely. But then there was a rumour of a higher-paying regular savings account, so many thought they would wait and see what this was about.

Now that details of the new savings account have been published, many of Barclays new customers have decided that making Barclays your main bank and having your salary paid in, is not worth it.

So it seems that unless Barclays is already your main account, most people will be closing their new account as soon as they get the £100 (or leaving it open with no balance just to add to Barclays administration costs).

There are 2 ways that have been mentioned repeatedly on this thread.

    1) There will probably be a cookie on your computer.
If you don't know where the cookies are then just search the entire drive for barclays -that's what I did.
This is not absolute proof but it might work.

    2) There should be a credit check on your experian report.
If you haven't used their free trial before then you can get this for free by signing up for the free trial (don't forget to cancel in time).
Otherwise you'll have to pay to get it.
    This IS proof.

A third alternative is to start keeping records.
I keep detailed records whenever I feel somthing is going awry and it's very useful in complaints to have all the names and dates.
I have almost got into the habit of doing it all the time.

I delete cookies from my computer as advised by people wot no more than me!!

Besides that they're no good for the waistline - so unless there's a secret hiding place for these cookies - a kind of cookie refuge that I don't know about - my cookies are crumbled

Absolutely and i sent for one after I had applied and it does indeed confirm the date of the credit check. Wether it is evidence I don't know

I need to work out how the quotes work sorry every one

Just to muddy the waters a little - I applied on-line prior on the 13th Jan prior to it being advertised by Martin in the weekly e-mail. All went v smoothly, no ID checks required, received confirmation, cheque book, password etc and deposited my first £1000 on 2 FEB.

To my surprise I received a printed statement in the post this morning (wasn't expecting one as it's an on-line account) and the Account Opening date is stated as 24th Jan, the day the cheque book etc were posted to me.

I'm not unduly worried by this even though the offer was withdrawn by the 19th Jan as I have kept a copy of the welcoming letter dated 17th Jan.
