Just thought i'd update my situation.

Today i recieved a letter from Barclays with my original application form saying due to me forgetting to sign the form on the back (oops) they are unable to open my account - good news as it goes on to say, once they have the signature they will continue to open the account without further delay.

Now quick question, do you think i'm on my way to claiming the £100 online offer?

I applied online just before they withdrew the offer ( i have a letter dated the 18th jan but obvouisly i'd applied a day or two earlier online)

What do you guys think, looking good or not??

    4. The account must be opened within one month of fully completing the Barclays Bank Account application form online.

So if you applied on 16th/17th Jan your account isn't open within a month of application

Barclays just made 15% rise in profits and over £5.28 billion

Doesn't that just make us all feel so much better?

Hi I applied on line to open the account and was sent all the paperwork to sign which I did. I have not received any documentation to bank online. I transferred £1000 through my halifax account and this has been credited. Not sure if they have opened up the right account for me . Anyone else had any probs.

Blast :( looks like i've lost out then, maybe thats why they were quick to accept me.

I'll just leave the account open and not use it then, oh well never mind.
  • I was able to apply for this offer on-line ; does this mean that I can put in the monies (2X £1000) at a branch or do I have to put the money through via on-line facility? Thanks.

    This is true.
But if it's their fault and you complain the "customer relations" department can override this.

Either - As long as you deposit the £1000 each month then you should qualify for the £100.

Barclays have obviously no intention of allowing me to take advantage of this £100 loophole. I applied on time, received the e-mail stating there would be a delay and a couple of weeks later received the application to sign. As ther was no request for I.D. I contacted Barclays and was advised that they had managed to identify me through the online credit check at the time of application and that paper proof was not necessary. A week later the application was returned stating that they needed paper proof of I.D. and to present it at my local branch. I contacted Barclays again explaining I live 80 miles from ther nearest branch and was told that I could send in the relevant documentation. I sent my drivers licence and my current bank account statement along with the original application.
Today I received a recorded delivery letter from Barclays. Great, I thought, at last I will get this account opened. Not so! My drivers licence and my bank statement have been returned along with the application form and the accompanying letter states that as they still cannot identify me could I please present myself at my local branch!!. I phoned Barclays, explained all of above to customer services advisor who in turn spoke to an "expert" who in turn passed me on to Complaints department. Discussed the above with complaints person and advised him that I had been identified immediately online, but he still insisted I visit a branch. I did ask if all this stalling was to do with them reneging on their £100 cash offer but this was obviously denied. I also asked if there was a time limit for the offer as I may find myself near one of their branches in the next couple of months, and was told that they would still have my details on record. End of telephone conversation.
I double checked the nearset branch online and it is 80 miles away BUT they are part of the Woolich group , it is incorporated on their website and there is a Woolich branch locally. Back on the phone, I suggested that if all they needed was for me to present myself and the relevant documentation to a branch surely I could do this at a Woolich Branch....... the advisor was unaware that they had anything to do with the Woolich and had to go on to the website to confirm this. She asked the question on my behalf and lo and behold I have to go to a Barclays branch.
Now after reading the comments on here I realise they have won and that the application is now out of date. I wonder what the FSA would make of all this.
What really annoys me is that they now have all my details on file and I have nothing to show for it.
Oh, I have a Barclays credit card, the statement of which arrived this morning, in the same post as the recorded delivery letter alerting me to the fact that they do not know who I am!!!!

If you have a Barclaycard, you're not eligible for the £100 as you're deemed to be 'an existing customer'......
