As an avid follower of this thread, I have to say I think Barclays are massively all over the floor.

I am one of the lucky ones who got their account with no ID checks etc, and I am quietly confident about the £100 and won't flap until they prove me wrong and don't pay the promised bonus, 2+ months hence. But I probably would seek clarification about my rightful dues if my application had been 'diverted' via a Branch because the T&Cs say nothing whatsoever about having to go to a Branch and the bonus being void in this case.

Their ID-check policy (if they have one) is somewhat extremely worrying, though. I have never had any account with Barclays, ok I have 'clean' CRA files but a heck of a lot of recent activity on them due to stoozing & applying for (and now having) just about every other current account that paid a joining incentive, I don't have a UK passport - - the perfect international terrorist/money launderer profile?? And they accept me without double-checking that I am who I say I am?

I am obviously not complaining, but would I trust a bank like this with my day-to-day financial affairs?

As to those who got turned down because they "didn't pass the credit score": you could appeal if you think this is unjustified, and if it's worth your while for £100. But not passing Barclay's credit scoring does by no means imply you have a bad credit record - you just didn't fit the Barclays criteria (or the criteria of whoever looked at your application, I actually doubt they have any corporate coherence on their criteria). Barclays are a commercial enterprise and have the right to decline to do business with anyone they don't want to do business with. None of us has any legal right for an account with Barclays (or anyone else), so if they turned you down, may be just offer your custom to someone who cares more about your custom.

At last I have recieved my letter from Barclays and no requirement to show proof of ID in branch, just sign the application form and specimen signature slip.
Hopefully the Barclaycard issue won't be a problem, although on the 8th Jan I sent a letter closing my Barclaycard account so I may be okay anyway. (although the closure acknowledgement letter was not received until 24th Jan)

I also stated that my salary would not be paid into the account, but I still got accepted.

Hopefully Barclays have decided that they are on dodgy ground if they don't honour there agreement and will realise that the bad publicity that they would receive could be more costly than the £100 offer.
I am sure that Barclays solicitors have been busy since the 19th Jan.
    Hi dguppy

Quick question - did you ask for an overdraft when you applied??
  • Can anyone definitely confirm that the original T's & C's did not mention that having a Barclaycard would affect application?
Or to put it another way, has anyone with a Barclaycard been "fully" accepted?

As I posted earlier today, my OH has a barclaycard and he has been "fully accepted" since 16th Jan.
  • Wife & I both applied online before the offer closed. OH was asked to go into the branch to show proof of id. Confirmed with the advisor that we would still be eligible for the £100 offer as we had come into the branch. Advisor checked and said that we would be eligible as we had applied online.

Rather cheekily, the advisor tried to sign the OH up for a credit card  . Noticed just in time, and challenged the advisor as to why my OH was being asked to sign a credit agreement. Adivsor went a little red faced and said that we didn't need to sign up for the credit card.

Arrived home today to find a letter from Barclays regarding my application and have just been asked to sign the application, sign a signature verification form and pop the forms in the post. (going to send them recorded delivery to be on the safe side). Looks like they won't be asking for my ID

Anyway, good luck to the rest of you who are awaiting replies from Barclays.

Do we have a copy of the original T&C's posted anywhere? If not perhaps Martin could arrange for this to be shown. Barclays are going to try their best to catch anybody out, so it is important we make sure we are sticking to the terms.

Of course they are likely to open a bank account for you if you apply! If you don't meet the conditions for the £100 offer they will still open the account for you, but you won't get the £100 like everyone else in 2 months time!

As far as I am aware no one has had a letter telling them they have met the conditions are will get the £100 in 2 months time. There is no way of really knowing other than paying in the £1000 for 2 months and sitting back and waiting.

The T&C says not open to barclays personal current account holders so based on that I would read that as saying having a barclaycard is ok.

They are included in this thread a number of times:

  • On my application form they want me to sign and send back there are a couple of differences with the details of how many VISA cards they have me down as having compared to what I entered online. The application form also has no record of a Barclaycard on it but I know I entered this online as well.

Does anybody think they are trying to catch me out, therefore having something to contest paying the £100 or should I just make the necessary changes and send it back??

    Thanks

You're not the only one to have their original application details amended/deleted/added. There are numerous other messages on this subject.
From entering my on-line application to receiving the completeed one from them there were at least 10 changes incl. home tel.number, current account details, salary details, number of c/cards and the inclusion of a work number which I intentionally left blank.
