After spending half an hour in a Barclay's branch on Saturday, with a very helpful, but not very well informed personal banker, I had my ID verified and this was updated on their system, using the reference number on my letter.

Funny thing was that my record was for my old address. I called the 0500 number when I got home and spent another half an hour talking to them...to be told that despite getting the "we'll be in touch in 10 days email" and the letter asking me to go into a branch with ID, they have no record of my application.

That seems strange seeing as the only way they could possibly have my new address is from the application form I filled in online, which they have linked to a cancelled Barclaycard record.

I made a complaint and received a letter yesterday informing me that they would respond no later than Feb 24th!

Useless - I'm glad that I don't actually bank with this lot as I really wouldn't trust them with my cash!

The staff at the 0500 number are not responding very well to this situation, and are doing Barclays a lot of harm

Never got asked about balances -but how am I supposed to remember to the month/year when I opened my present current account that I have had for years......?

I agree, the questions are flawed which is why I think so many people "failed" this bit.

The only way to know would be to have a copy of your Experian credit report.
This takes about 7-10 days by post, so that would be too late.
You could get it instantly on line, but if you've already used their free trial then that would cost you around a tenner.
  • I am really not bothered about the £100, but it must be costing them a fortune with admin costs, postage, call centre etc.

Just received the letter about going to a branch with ID. I live in NI and we have no branches over here so when I telephoned Im told to send passport etc in the post. Not happy about doing this, anyone been able to get round this?

    thanks
  • I originally recieved the letter asking for ID which I took into my local branch. I was only in there a couple of minutes, everything came up on the computer straight away so I thought great.
This morning I got a cheque book and letter saying welcome to Barclays blah blah with my account number and branch sort code, but no info about online banking or how to log on. The letter came from my local Barclays. My application for a Connect Card has also been approved which I don't remember asking for.
    Is this what others recieved?

Yeah - same here. Applied on 18th Jan, got the 10 day e-mail, then nothing.

I have assumed my application will be rejected (largely because I applied for a Sky card and got turned down, and they are run by Barclaycard !)
    Not even wrong
