No I did not select the overdraft option
They can still do an "identity check" on your credit report to check you are who you say you are.
This is not the same as a credit check for lending purposes.
It will be recorded (for you to see) but will not be available to other lenders.
They have a legal duty to stop terrorists and money launderers, so they can still do this.
Somewhere is the terms and condition of their offer you will have agreed to this. Mosts of us would have just ticked the box to accept their terms and conditions without reading them, but there would have been a clause indicating that you gave your permission for them to access your credit record.0 -
They did a check on Experian on me (no credit problems) but they still want me to prove who I am by taking documents I don't have - to a branch.

Applied for this account the day before expiry date -
recieved the paper application 10 days later -
rang to confirm the £100 pounds will be added if I return the application
was told that i may not get the £100 because i have a barclaycard visa and was told i would not get the £100 because i am a woolwich (owned by Barclays) account holder.
Looking into it - any thoughts on this?0 -

T&C's

2. This offer is only available to non-Barclays personal current account holders who open a Barclays Bank Account ('new account') online.
Barcaly Card holders are not excluded by the T&Cs
Is the Woolwich account a current account?, if not then you're not excluded.
If it is you could argue that it is not a 'Barclays' personal current account, do they refer to the account as a 'Barclays' account in any correspondence? - if they don't then you could argue it is not a 'Barclays' personal current account so you are not excluded.
Is it referred to as a Woolwich account?, if so there is a distinction between Barclays and Woolwich accounts. The T&Cs only exclude Barclays, therefore Woolwich account holders are not excluded.0 -
i have in my possesion a letter from barclays customer relations containing the following line;-
"i would like to confirm what we discussed, and am pleased to advise that both you and your wife qualify for the promotional offer of £100 cashback in respect of opening your new barclays bank account online." :T :T :T
the letter was further to a return call from barclays customer relations yesterday to the same effect.
as posted previously, i don't think that it will be the norm for people to get any kind of written confirmation, but that should not cause concern. my letter was as a result of a complaint logged on the 26th jan.
some clarifying info;-
we both applied online on 13th jan with no cra questions.
we were previously neither barclays or barclaycard customers.
we were both asked to take id to local branch and did so.
we were both told, during various calls to 0500 007 234, that we did not qualify!
everybody, chin up, and continue with applications. record a complaint if you think have been misinformed. don't trust what they tell you on 0500 007 234.
if you expect to be 'misinformed' when you call, tell them you are recording the call to aid your enquiry.
i think and hope that people will get the right outcome when barclays staff start giving out the correct facts.
good luck all. Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0 -

This probably means you got one of the questions wrong.
One of the questions is flawed in my opinion.
This is because they ask you for the balance on you "latest" statement but Experian does not have the latest information because it's updated in arrears.
So (for example) you might have Januarys statement but Experian only have December just because they get updated a bit later.
I think this is why so many people "failed" the identity check.0 -
Got this letter from Barclays confirming £100 offer.
"I'm sorry you had to contact us about your online application for a Barclays Bank account. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to do so.
I understand that in order to finalise the opening procedure you were required to visit a branch with the suitable identification and because of this you were advised that you would not qualify for the £100 cashback offer.
Please accept my appologies for any confusion you have been caused by this matter. I can confirm that as you applied within the promotional period and provided the correct identification and address verification to the branch, you will still be eligible for the £100 offer. Providing you meet the terms and conditions of the offer, the £100 will be credited within twenty-eight days of the second monthly payment of £1000 into your new account."0 -

Aaaagh! need to vent having just come off the phone to barclays following a 59 minute phonecall! An 0845 as well.
I received my passcode today with the sealed leter stating "You're ready to bank online". When I tried to do this I got an error code 1175 and was told to call the online banking helpdesk. Apparently the problem is not with my online membership details, but the fact that I dont have an account assigned to it. The man then went on to tell me to go into a branch with 2 forms of ID, even though I have already been accepted and sent back my signature etc.
The upshot is I was given yet another number, the good old 0500, to speak to them about the status of my account, and they are now closed. All of this because I want to deposit £1000 too, ( albeit for 48hrs!)
The communication lines are awful with Barclays, and I told him no less.0
