they make you jump through hoops then post the info

They have no alternative but to obey the governments regulations.

They shouldn't be sending certain things through the post together, for example cards and PIN numbers should arrive seperately.
Cards and chequebooks should arrive seperately.

Are they sending through these things together?

    Arghhhhhhhhhh

Just spent 2 hours in Barclays in Glasgow, verifying who I am.
Got the letter asking me to take in 2 types of ID, went to branch (40 miles from home), with letter, ID, Info from here, etc.
Got to speak to an adviosr (top marks to the Personall Banker superb young man), he looks at the letter, and trys to find me on the system. No record, tries 3 times still no record, I point out that how can Barclyas send me a letter if they have no record of me ?
He then phones his helpline, on hold 20 minutes, finally gets someone who is no help at all, and can't seem to understand the concept of Barclays being able to send me a letter if they have no details of me.
He then is given a MI5 esque barclays helpline, and just after he speaks to someone there, up pops my details
The top secret helpdesk also confirm that my on line application was made on the 18th.
Now problem number 2, they have my name, but no other detials on their system, spend 30 minutes inputing data I had submitted via t'internet, ready to rock and roll, then system can't save details. Info inputted again (another 30 minutes) and finally we have lift off account sorted, and £100 deal confirmed.
The only thing that kept me going was working out that the whole episode cost me (including travel) 2hours or £50 / hour.

Is is me or are Barclays making this as difficult as possible
Never mind in 2 months I will never have to deal with them again :T

    Ok - here we go...

As long as you opened your account online between Jan 9th and approx midday Jan 19th you can deposit £1000 for two consecutive months and within 28 days of the second deposit you will receive your £100. Apparently there is a dedicated team of people who will alocate the money at the correct time

Seems you have some insider connection, mole?

Do you mean 'as long as you applied for your account'?

When do the consecutive months start?

No insider info I'm afraid, just phoned the 0500 number on the letter.
Yes, sorry, "applied" is what I meant and as long as it was online, you're first letter should state

    "thank you for applying online...."

The very nice lady told me to deposit the first £1000 as soon as I have my account number and sort code which I now have (I also had to take info into the branch) and then the next £1000 a month and a day after that - within 28 days you will get your £100

  • Hi guys, am one of the thousands of people who have applied for this account. Just had a letter asking me to take in two forms of ID. Am too confused to work out exactly where I stand. Can anybody tell me whether I will still get my £100 if I go into a branch or will they wriggle out of it by quoting me rule 401, section3, subsection ii of their terms and conditions. If anybody can give me a straight (ish) answer, I would be very grateful!!

I was in the same predicament as you but I have been told that I will get it (see my post above)

    Another variation on the theme.
I went to my local branch armed with identifications as requested and ready for an arguement. All they did was to photocopy them, stamp them and verify them as true copies and told me to send them with the original application back to Barclays Direct banking at Leicester.
Remains to be seen whether that will work. It seems logical enough to me. After all, the letter only said to take identification to a local branch. Unfortunately, it also said that they would be able to "complete the application and open your account". But, as far as I'm concerned the form was already complete.

My girlfriend, who was asked to provide ID in branch, didn't get the prepaid return envelope with her form though.

Applied on line on 18th. Got email quoting the ten day delay. Received letter dated 26th Jan asking to take in the ID.

Went into a small Barclays today with ID. Told I would have to see someone and asked to wait a while.

A couple of minutes later, the chap finishes what he was doing and we begin the verification. Lovely chap, nice chat, asked if I wanted e.g. overdraft and talked me through it and something called Additions, which I would have to pay for but there were various benefits e.g. multi!trip travel insurance. Declined these offers, but took leaflet away for Inheritance Tax Planning to show willing.

Lovely chap gave me his business card with my new account number and sort code on it and said I would be getting my card and chequebook etc through the post.

So looking forward to banking my first £1k

Seemed too painless, have I missed something??
