I just phoned the 0500 number - they couldn't help at all with the ID documents but just said phone my local branch - useless!0

NewToThis wrote:Hi all. Received letter today from Barclays asking me to take I.D. to local branch. It states "They will be able to complete your application and open your account". Is there anything I should be wary of?
Hi all. Thanks to people who replied. I rang 0500 number. Upshot is my application will not count as online app. because I have been asked to take I.D. into a branch. I fail to understand why my I.D. does not stack up, since I am on the electoral register and my credit rating must be good. I am never in debt and manage my affairs well. The only thing that might have counted against me is that I opened a Halifax account in November 2005. However, their concern seems to be with I.D., not recently-opened accounts. Just another thought - recently applied for two credit cards so that I can 'stooze'. That might affect application but, as I have already said, they are simply asking for I.D.
I said that I would be complaining to Watchdog. The guy on the 'phone is logging my complaint. Watch this space!0 -
Just saw there's a rumour about a new Barclays Regular Save (see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=144454)
As I posted over there, this could potentially mean it makes sense to keep the current account open (for those of us that manage to get it, LOL) beyond the £100 cash-in date. Remains to be seen whether they launch it, and with what terms, but worth looking out for it.0 -
My little Rockweiler has been on the telephone and Barclays appear to have changed their minds and will honour the £100 offer0

If the form submitted it was fully completed, if Barclays have responded to it they have processed the application.
Taking ID to branch does not disqualify you - nothing in T&Cs to say it does.
The branch have access to the online application - all they do in branch is record the ID info against the online application.
++Have just 'phoned 0500 number again and pointed out that there is nothing in t & c's that says ID taken into branch means that the application is no longer 'online'. However, I am talking to 'oily rag' who can do no more than pass on complaint.0 -
I am seriously thinking of giving up on this one , the main point of an online account is you don't have to queue for ages - I don't want to jump more hoops and aggro for a crap account and "service" to be later disqualified for the £100.
Well done to those who get it -0 -

Proceed with the application and take ID to branch, if there's still a problem get person in branch to resolve it. Don't let branch staff fob you off either.0 -
Hooray, my new account is open now! Never banked with Barclays before, never had to provide proof of ID, never got asked to go to a Branch. Very painless experience so far for me though I am still waiting to receive online access information.0

njb55rtd wrote:Umm. Just received letter asking my to take ident to local branch etc. Rang them up as no mention made of £100 offer. They said that as I had a Barclaycard, the offer did not apply as it is a Barclays Bank affiliate. I think that's stretching the conditions a bit. Does anyone remember that from the original (now withdrawn) web page. Needless to say, I'm not proceeding.
Looking at it from another direction, if I am already a "customer", why the hell do they need more identification? I think it's a con.
This is incorrect, my OH has a barclaycard and he has been accepted and money is in the account. he did apply on 16th jan several days before they pulled the plug.
I also applied that day and am still waiting. Although I got letter straight away to take id to branch.0 -

This is also incorrect. My OH who has the account now up and running and has been confirmed he will recieve the £100 had to take ID into the branch.
I am beginning to think that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing at Barclays.0
