Umm. Just received letter asking my to take ident to local branch etc. Rang them up as no mention made of £100 offer. They said that as I had a Barclaycard, the offer did not apply as it is a Barclays Bank affiliate. I think that's stretching the conditions a bit. Does anyone remember that from the original (now withdrawn) web page. Needless to say, I'm not proceeding.
Looking at it from another direction, if I am already a "customer", why the hell do they need more identification? I think it's a con.0 -

NewToThis wrote:Hi all. Received letter today from Barclays asking me to take I.D. to local branch. It states "They will be able to complete your application and open your account". Is there anything I should be wary of?
My wife and I both applied for this. Mine is currently lost but will get offer (Just had to send paperwork back). My wife had to go down to branch with ID. The customer service in Worcester was truely awful and it took 45 minutes just to check docummentation.
And to cap it, I have just come off phone to Barclays about mine and my wife will not now be eligable for the £100 offer as she had the same letter as you and the branch had to finish the application.
I don't think so!!!!!!
Ring them first to confirm you will still get offer. As for me, I will be writing a strongly worded letter.0 -

They need to check you are who you say you are.
You wouldn't want anyone just walking off the street and claiming to be you, would you?
Unfortunately once you've proved your identity it simply proves you're an "existing customer".0 -

Old accounts = existing customer.
No £100, it was new to bank customers.
Sorry.
According to the terms and conditions
2. This offer is only available to non-Barclays personal current account holders who open a Barclays Bank Account ('new account') online.
And I 'was' a non-Barclays personal current account holder at the time of application. I had 3 defunct e-savings accounts, no personal current accounts. I have however now got a Barclays Bank Account ('new account') online. Therefore fulfilling the T&C's. For the sake of £1k moving in and out of the account a couple of times I'm quite happy to go over their T&C's with them.0 -

See post no. 130 for T&Cs
Unless Barclays have informed you in writing that you do not qualify I'd proceed with the application as all is still in line with the T&C's
You submitted a fully completed application form online.
They instruct you to take ID to branch to finalise the opening of the account.0 -

This is not relevant, only the fully completed application form needs to be submitted online.
If the form submitted it was fully completed, if Barclays have responded to it they have processed the application.
Taking ID to branch does not disqualify you - nothing in T&Cs to say it does.
The branch have access to the online application - all they do in branch is record the ID info against the online application.0 -
I've just got the letter to say - go to a local branch with proof of ID. to confirm "who I am " I don't have a driving licence, passport or any other they require.
The printout of my application is full of errors, boxes are now ticked that I didn't originally, or missing.

I just phoned the 0500 number - they couldn't help atall but just said phone my local branch - useless!

Correct the form and initial each correction, take and keep a copy of the corrected form.0 -

Dear Customer Relations:
My husband has just come off the telephone as he has been waiting nearly two weeks for you to action the piece of paperwork he sent back to you to confirm opening of a Barclays Account. His reference is ******. The service is very slow and we are not impressed thus far with your bank.
The letter I received from Barclays to open my bank account I have enclosed. As you can see, I was directed to take documentation to my local branch. This proved a trial in itself and took nearly one hour to show a passport and driving license. My question is now that we have been told that where as my husband is entitled to the £100 offer when you find his paperwork, I will not be eligible as I had to show paperwork at the branch for the account to be opened? Please can you confirm this to be an inaccurate statement because I have all the original documentation saved and can find no mention of this on the application terms and conditions.
It would appear that Barclays are trying not to honour their original offer and this is obliviously unacceptable and something I would wish to pursue with Trading Standards. For your records my reference was ******** and the account was subsequently opened at the Worcester branch. For your reference here were your terms and conditions posted on your website and I feel I have honoured each and every one:
