    Hi everyone

I applied on Wednesday early evening (as soon as I had got Martin's weekly email) for an account for myself and one for my OH.

My OH got her letter Saturday which contained the printout of all the details entered and asked her to take it and ID proof to any branch. She did this yesterday, but the branch staff seemed clueless but she now does have an account number and sort code and will enable online access tonight. The branch retained the letter and printout (ought to have copied it didn't I) and gave her what appears to be a standard Barclays Welcome letter - no mention of the £100!

On Monday, she then received the email about how busy Barclays were with the offer and that her application might be delayed for some time!!

I have not yet had any paperwork arrive as yet ( perhaps more details to check on my Credit references?) but got my "delay" email yesterday.

Update on above - phoned 0500 number this am. 25 minute wait (no indication of either wait time or queue position - how helpful). Nice man told me that the offer was of course very heavily subscribed and that my applic was currently being processed, but no decision yet. I should expect a response within 5 days. When I asked if I will qualify for the £100 sign-up incentive if I am approved, he said yes, of course because you applied whilst the offer was still valid.

Will get my wife to call tonight, to check that the account she has now opened will qualify. She has enabled online access and deposited the funds required. :T

should I transfer my £1000 to a third account and then move that amount to my wifes account. Also should I leave a small amount in my account ?

I would transfer the money to another bank and then back, leaving at least £1 in the Barclays account - but that's being ultra-cautious; there's no requirement to do it that way.

Hi - new to all this but hope to make the best of all the money saving tips.

I applied last week for the Account and received an e-mail saying it would be 10 days or more before they could process it as they had a backlog.

Does that mean I wont now get the £100?
Not worth going ahead with the account if not?

Forgot to say hello to everyone.
  • Firstly Can I say a Big Hello to one and all on this great forum.

I too applied for this account, I received the paperwork for the account, which I took to my local account with proofs of identity. The staff look bemused and have told me that they will ring back with account details this afternoon.

Do I need to ensure that I deposit £1000 for the next two months in order to get the £100?

Can I then close the account? is it worth keeping it open?

    regards
  • I applied for the Barclays account and got through the website to apply no problem. I have subsequently received an e-mail saying that due to unexpected high demand there will be a delay in processing my account application. I await in anticipation!!!
  • After visiting my local branch last week and insisting that the staff finalise my application I sat back and waited.

This morning I got a cheque book, a welcome letter and my on line banking pin.

The cheque book has the sort code number 20-29-77 :(

    What do you think Dan?

The letter is from my local Branch and not Direct Banking in Leicester :(

The letter includes account & sort code numbers and confirmation that a connect card is also in the post.

The on line pin gives instructions to the website which I've tried and can't yet access. :(

The site asks for a membership number which I take it is different (12 digits) to the account number (8 digits).

So far not so good eh

Yes to your first question and No to the second, doing the first will satisfy the criteria and hopefully give you a £100, account is rubbish and not worth keeping. Lloyds TSB and Alliance and Leicester has better accounts.
2p off is still 2p off!

Thanks, Do you think its worth clarifying the £100 eligibility? I did apply before the 19th Jan.
  • Hi all. Received letter today from Barclays asking me to take I.D. to local branch. It states "They will be able to complete your application and open your account". Is there anything I should be wary of?

Yes they should have e-mailed your membership number to you by now.

Hi folks, just to let you know I am following this.

The salient facts are simple. If you applied in time while the £100 offer was there, and you make the terms and conditions that were available at that point you should get the £100. Of course this is dependent on account acceptance.

Obviously Barclays was swamped by this (hoorah) so it is going to take it time to go through it. However hopefully that will happen. Keep fighting (politely) your corner, and if no joy starts to be common, I will take it up with barclays
