Yes, it's not your money it's theirs.
They can ask for it back and if necessary pursue you through the legal system for it.

They can do this any time over the next six years.

If you are going to keep it then be aware that you can be asked for it back at any time in the next 6 years.

Of course there is the possibility that they will never notice and never ask for it back.

If you want to keep it but want to be cautious then put it to one side and spend the capital plus interest in 6 years time.

    With regard to mentats problem.
I would advise still asking them for the money.
It's possible they may still pay out - either mistakenly or as a goodwill gesture.

    Quite unusual this...
Not as unusual as you might think...both my wife and myself have each been paid the incentive twice!

This creates a problem because we want to close the accounts and, despite informing them twice over the last 3 weeks, they have not yet removed the additional incentive payments from our accounts.

We intend writing to them next month requesting that they close our accounts. If they remove the additional incentive payments first before sending us the cheques for the small balances then fair enough, but if not...well, we've had £400 out of them!!

Thank you everyone, but to reiterate - they paid up!

I've already transferred the money out of the account and sent off the account closure form from the Barclays website.

    Job done.

I have done everything by the book for this account, second deposit was 7th March, so I though this was long enough I will give them a ring.

CS there agreed I had fulfilled all the payments and I should have been payed by now. He went to check but I was not on the list, turns out I have an open account with the Woolwich which was joined to a mortgage we used to have with them. Never use the account but because Barclays took over Wooolwich it means I now have a product with them, and thus I am not entitled to the £100.

Will have to see what they say to my OH as our local branch told her she would get the money, when she had to take the ID in.

I am not happy, closing this account ASAP.

Has anybody else had Markyb's problem (message 1064) of missing out because they have a Woolwich account.
The T&C's specifically states a "Barclays personal current account".
Has anybody any thoughts on this, and I hope Markyb comes back with an update of his progress.

    Hi FTman,

I havent taken this any further yet as been away. I am thinking of complaining further though as I have now re-read the T&C's and think I have a reasonable case. As you mentioned it only says Non-Barclays current account holders.
The worst part is the Woolwich current account I had came with the mortgage and I never used it.

Will let you know my progress.

I have spoken to someone else at Barclays and apparently I am now on the list to be paid. So they are raising another complaint to find out where the money is! I think thats three complaints I am now waiting on answers for, whats the record?

Will have to get the OH to ring up now as well. Good job I didn't close the accounts just yet.

Got my £100 today, 28 days after the second deposit. Deep gratitude to the OP :)

Fortunately I didn't have to raise a complaint. It seems a bit 'hit and miss' as to who gets the money without any hassle though.

Hmmm....they're trying to weasle out of paying me my £100 now!

Rang today to chase it up and they're saying that although i did pay in 1000 each month for the first two months. The 1000 in Feb hit my account and left it on the same day, so they are not counting it as a credit.

Ok, so perhaps i should have left it a day, but the money cleared and showed on the online banking as a £1000 credit balance. So i did an online transfer back to my main current account. Had my account not shown it was in credit I wouldn't have initiated the transfer!

They don't dispute that I paid in the money, but are now trying to say it should have stayed there longer than a few hours...anyone got any advice on that front?! I'm going to be arguing the toss over this one i think, especially as the account opening process and customer service has been so lousy.

Definitely question it, as the terms and conditions did not state the money had to be in the account for any length of time. I did exactly the same thing- saw it appear as a credit of £1000, and transferred it out. Thought it would not come out straight away but it did,( wish it went in that quick!)

Anyway , I got my money yesterday 13 days after my second deposit and after complaining.
