Yeah, i went to a pc world today and they said they could not get a 'GA' but insisted that a nearby curry's digital would price match it.
So i went down to the currys digital but they were adamant that they would not price match on a clearance range which were not in stock in the pc world.
Then a bit down hearted went to another currys which said they would sell it if pc world rang them.
so i guess you just have to insist on pc world ringing currys. seems to be a few avaliable in north london. well will be visiting a friend in croyden tmw, will have a go there.0 -
Went into my local PC World today and after some initial hesitancy but with my persistence that others had achieved this, a very nice manager rang the other manager who was on his day off and he said that it could be done. So I have been told to go back tomorrow at 11 am and they will do a GA for me. I won't believe it until I see it but I will be there at 11 am!!0

How are all you people managing to get hold of one of these?! I want it so badly and 4 days ago tried all I could to get hold of one but they aren't in stock anywhere! Apparently they are discontinued and won't be coming back and alot of people are still managing to get hold of them! Could someone let me know of anywhere that has them in stock or I would love to buy it off anyone if you guys have a spare?0

You have to go instore to check. Don't rely on what customer services say or what their website says.0

It's Staines PC World where I have asked three times so far! Once more for luck!!
It's the Staines PC World that I found out there were 9 units in Hounslow High St. I didn't want the camera myself so just told a friend - there was a fairly clueless guy there who did the stock check for me. This was on New Years Eve though. Good luck.
For the record this doesn't seem to come with a memory card - it takes Compact Flash as well as XD - mymemory.co.uk are doing 3 for 2 on Kingston products and have a 16Gb CF card for £20. Good deal.Spacker (plural spackers) (Britain, slang) A spack; a clumsy or foolish person.0 -
Everywhere I've have tried has had stock in currys, none at PC World, and refused to price match and refused to GA0

This might help anyone who's bought this camera and does'nt have any CF (or XD memory) - but has SD memory....
I bought an adaptor from Maplin takes SD (and HDSD) cards (which you insert into a CF carrier) and converts to CF II - £19.99

I've been using it with my new Olympus at it works well !!
Hi guys.
I have just bought the Olympus e410 camera (at last!) but dont have it in my posession yet!
Does it only take XD memory cards?
What is the difference between XD and SD cards?
Where is the best deal for XD cards?
Cheers.0 -
where did you buy it from? Did a PC world 'GA' it for you?
it takes xD and and compact flash not SD.
it only takes a max of 2GB xD so CF is a better bet. plus CF cards are much more commonly used.
play.com is pretty cheap for CF cards.0 -
Yeah, a pal of mine picked it up in a Currys. I think they had it in stock but were able to price match it.
I'll check out CF cards on play.com. Was going to buy the 2GB Olympus on Play for £11.99, but it's out of stock. Thanks for the advice.0 -
I got mine today. It was surprisingly painless, given a very helpful chap in PC World in Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff. I had almost given up the idea of getting one of these, but I thought I'd pop in just in case. I had a look in PC World, no stock there. I had a look in Currys next door and they had one on display! I was all excited and went back to PC World. I cornered one guy and asked him if he could do me a favour. I explained the scam, sorry, offer (!) to him and asked if he could do a transfer.
He went on the system and confirmed they had none in stock there in PC World. On looking around, he saw there was one in the Currys next door. He said though, since they only had one, it was probably the display model. I said I didn't mind that but he said he'd look around for a new boxed one. Anyway, Newport Currys were showing two and Cwmbran were showing five, meaning they probably had them boxed as well as on display. He suggested I pop down and ask them to price match, but I said they may not since there was no stock in PC World. He said ok, he'd do it my way. He tried for ages to phone Newport but they weren't answering their phone. He phoned Cwmbran and they confirmed they had them. He told them what he was doing so Cwmbran reserved one for me, taking my name. I then paid at PC World. That was yesterday. Today I went to Currys in Cwmbran and picked up my camera. Been playing with it this evening, it's a flipping marvelous piece of kit!
By my reckoning then, the stock levels now may be
1 - Currys Culverhouse Cross Cardiff (display model)
2 - Currys Newport (1 may be display model)
4 - Currys Cwmbran (ditto).
So fill ya boots as they say!
I've been looking at digital SLRs for some years now, trying to justify it to myself.
Thanks very much to the OP and to the person who explained the GA thing! I'm now £170 lighter, but £400 happier...!0
