  • accyterrier, thanks for that. some good prices, but is there much difference in the quality between the two brands?

I have always bought Sandisk as they have never let me down, but Kingston is still a good brand and the prices of the 8Gb & 16Gb are very tempting!

Just a word of warning I would advise against getting a cheap 'own brand make' of compact flash as my mate got a 16Gb own brand version and lost an awful lot of pics as the card corrupted!

Ignore what the central reservations say - there seems to be a huge discrepancy betwen what they list, what the stores hold and the stock database between PC World and Curry's. Pop into a PC World and ask them to check their stock database for you - this will include Currys.

Really want this camera..(walks away to cry in a corner)

    Thanks anyway.

    What does GA stand for?
  • Small question...
I have a Currys store near me, but the nearest PC world is over 25 miles away. Now, is there any way I could buy it from the Currys store at £169 without going to the PC world store? It's quite a long way to travel with a high risk of them just saying "no" !
    Any help appreciated,
    Mark

Can anyone help at all pls 'cos tomorrow is the only day I can go!

You can but ask. If they say no then you'll have to go to PC World. Perhaps you could phone PC World and ask if they'll take the order over the phone. Check the stock in your local Currys before travelling the 25 miles to get to the PC World! When you do get to the PC World, explain it to them and be nice, ask them if they can do you a favour...explain to them how it works and say you know they can do a GA on this.

It's worth it, this camera and lens combination was selling for £700 when it came out. You're really getting this sort of money's worth of kit for £170.

By the way, the PC World I went to was about 22 miles from me, then the Currys another 30 miles or so and back the next day...

You have to pay in store - I checked.

Mine is coming from Bracknell Curry's. (I hope).

Thanks ever so much for this - there's a currys store where my GF lives (who i'm going to see tomorrow) so will take a trip there, and see if they have any stock. If they do, will not mention anything in the currys store and will travel to the nearest PC world and try get them to do the GA. There's also another Curry's store in the same town the PC World is in so I guess I have two chances!
    Right.
    Check in both Currys stores
    Phone PC World
When they don't take order over the phone (bah!) travel to PC World

So, is it pretty easy for people to get the GA? Anyone having problems?
  • Does anyone have the SKU or product code for the item or have they just been using the product name?

From what you seem to all be saying it's a hard job getting them to do the GA, any tips on how to go about it?
    Really, REALLY wanting this camera!

It took me 2 visits to 2 different PC worlds to sort it out. I just went there looked for someone who looked clued up. Told him to do a stock check on a E410. He can see on there system who has in stock including Currys stock.

Told him i spoke to Currys head office and they said "GA" into PC world. At first he said it can't be done, i mentioned head office said yes (Just a blag).
He then found a Currys near by with at least 2 new in stock. Called up the store and spoke with the manager. Then came back to me saying it's sorted, took about 15mins though. Paid for it there and picked it up after that.

Best time i think it's when it's not busy, the person at PC world needs to get hold of the manager at the Currys store. It's down to the Currys store if they want to GA or not (That's what PCworld told me).

I was tempted to offer the guy at PCworld a bribe to sort it out for me, maybe worth a try?

    good luck

    many thanks to the OP.

Took 5 hours in total, a visit to a pc world and currys in east london and a pc world and currys in south london. pc world staff have possibly the worst customer service ever!!

Got one in the end with a 'stock transfer' from currys to pc world. Currys would not pricematch.
