    all is not lost...

I considered this camera and then decided that it was worth paying the extra and getting a Nikon D60. Calumet do it for about 255 with a lens - which is very good value for money. The Nikon is current and arguably better technically (and IMHO if you are buying an SLR you are looking for performance).

Websites like dpreview give very detailed accounts of technical performance if you are interested.

Thanks to the OP I Managed to get 2 cameras today - 1 for myself and 1 for my dad.

The very helpful lady in Yeovil PC world found me one in Currys Yeovil and 1 in Currys Dorchester, but there were also cameras in Gloucester, Chippenham, Weston-super-mar, Bath and loads in Bristol - particularly Dixons.

No problems at all with the GA, paid at pc world and collected from Currys.

The lady from Dorchester could not believe how cheap I had got it considering it was on their shelf at £283.

Many thanks to OP and to Bumbles for his "GA" method which worked for me today!

I have been into my local PC World and politely asked if local stock could be checked and transferred from Currys. I was told that this is not possible and that there was no stock anywhere. I find it hard to believe as there must be at least 10 Curry stores that I could get to quite easily. It is so frustrating I just can't find a helpful staff member! Aaargh! I live in Greater London just into Surrey so have quite a few options re stores - just not able to get any help.

I managed to speak with a very nice man in the Yeovil PC World who tracked some cameras down for me but I would have to get to Yeovil to pay for it..... My husband drew the line at that as it is over two hours drive away! I am still trying to get hold of a camera so any further help would be greatly appreciated. This is doing my head in....

The SA at PCW said that it depended on the relationship that the sister stores had with each other as to whether they would do a GA or not, as some considered themselves competitors. I am close to giving up. Thanks.

Using the advice in this forum I sent a friend to Guildford on Thursday - after hassling the staff, getting the usual "it's not possible" he asked to speak to a manager who also said it wasn't possible. When he told the manager "a friend has requested a GA transfer at the Staines PC World and collected from Hounslow High Street" the manger conceded and made the attempt - no one wanted to go to the trouble but if you insist they will. He paid in Guildford PC World & collected from New Maldon who had several in stock at normal price.

Good luck and thanks to the OP and the poster who suggested the GA.
