I also had problems trying to find a PC World in the local area which had one of these cameras, so contacted their Customer Service Line - who told me that once the stock was gone, it was gone.
I then went on the Currys website, found the same camera in stock and then phoned their customer service line and asked them to price match it. At first they refused saying it wasn't in stock at PC World. I then pointed out to the chap I spoke to that the product code was exactly the same and that PC World and Currys are sister companies - so should match the price regardless. After a lot of discussion, he phoned the store that had one, got them to reserve it and price matched it. Remember to take the PC World paperwork with you clearly stating the reduced price if you're successful in finding one as the manager I spoke to in Currys refused to give me the price match at first.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Found a Currys that had it in stock price £283.79. Asked them to price match PCworld they said no, because it's out of stock.
Called Currys customer service and mentioned about the sister company thing, they still said NO!
Any other ideas?0 -
A friend of mine got one in Portsmouth today. They did a stock transfer from the Currys next door. Paid £169.0

Re: Pricematch / Currys and PCworld
As per my earlier posting, when I made the reservation on-line with Currys and asked about the price-match (and was confirmed by the store), I was told that because the item could be found in the "region" they would honor the "price match" (plus give 10% of the difference).
It might be worth mentioning, when I approached a Currys store (prior to contacting Currys central reservations) - the store was extremly reluctant to co-operate with the "price match" policy and effectivly "fobbed me off with various excuses" ....
My advice would be - go into PCworld, find a helpful assistant and watch over their screen as they make the searches for the E410 - find out exactly where the item is instock at PCworld (I expect only display and non-pristine models (thats what their system calls them) will be in stock, they won't ordinarly sell them to the public but they will show as being availiable), find out what "region" the store is in - along side the PCworld stores with stock in that region, the system will also show which branches of Currys have them in. Then call Currys central ordering (it's an 0870 number i'm afraid - no non-NGO equlivant), then reserve the item from the Currys that has them in stock in a region that also has them in for PC world (they will make sure that they are in-stock - but as per above), but say you want to "price match", this will be noted on the reservation docket sent to the store .... then go into the store an hour later and make your purchase at the PCworld price !!
Hope that helps explain how the process worked for me !

Currys say:
1) Go to a PC World and get them to find a Currys store which has them in stock (this will show on their computer system).
2) Get them to ring the store and ask for a 'GA'. (Not sure what this stands for but it means the stock gets transferred from Currys to PC World)
3) Pay for camera at PC World at £169
4) Pick up camera at Currys store.
I know it sounds complicated but the SA will know what you are talking about. You will probably get all sorts of excuses as to why they can't do it but persist, nicely, and you might get somewhere. This method has worked 5 times so far for 5 friends.0
