If I gave someone cash as a present and I mean someone who wasn't expecting it, and they paid bills with it then fine. You obviously needed the money.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Personally I don't find that a problem.

Personally I don't think its a matter of 'needing the money', its just that when cash is given as a gift, in my case, it gets put in the wallet and swallowed up on everything else. Whether this was on purpose or not.
Obviously the case of giving money as a gift could be different if you knew a certain person was saving up for something.0 -
Cash is a gift in itself I think. What the recipient chooses to do with it is their business.
I was in Zavvi today - the sale was exactly the same as you'd expect at this time of year with a lot of things I expected to be discounted at full price! So I didn't buy anything. I guess they can afford to keep prices high as it's the sort of stuff that another retailer will happily buy off them for a few quid off.0 -

Nope. the company is now in administration, so insolvency laws apply. And under those rules, creditors can't be preferred over other creditors....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I don't really get gift vouchers. I've never been given them, other than book tokens which you can use anywhere, and never given them to anyone else....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Most shops still take cash .... why not save that ?? Then toddle off to whichever store and buy the item in question. Maybe if it's in more than one store and you are able to buy it in either, you could price match or haggle the price down.
If you have a gift voucher your tied to a store, meaning if its cheaper elsewhere your up the creek without a certain paddling instrument.
Obviously you had better prepare the assistant prior to saying that your paying with CASH just in case they only accept gift vouchers.or credit cards
Gift vouchers are a way of stores locking cash to them and are better for the stores than they are for the consumer.0 -
I use vouchers that have the queens head on them, loads of stores accept them.
If I walk into a shop with the intention of buying an item and I feel I would be spending too many of these vouchers to buy this item, I simply walk out and find another place that might."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".

I went in there the other day - the majority of the stuff was still full price but there were a few DVDs, games, etc that were reduced - nothing of interest to me, though.Sealed Pot challenge #508
