Grammergirl - unfortunately this manager was. When I explained why my husband had the vouchers he actually said his situation was worse as he could be out of a job. I found that rather hurtful. My husband didn't hear as he was too busy starting to feel very unwell.
I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.

As for the trust etc, why should a £10 voucher holder get preference over say a 30 million landlord creditor?

Because creditors and to a lessor extent landlords/suppliers accept a degree of risk and make a profit from doing so, the risk should be factored into their business model.

Customers dont make a profit and dont have ways to mitigate such losses.

What happens if you have bought through a voucher company not actually from Zavvi itself? Do you have to go through them and not zavvi administrators?

Aaah, well I'm sorry to hear that, it must've been upsetting. I guess each individual circumstance is different... I'm sorry your husband missed out on the vouchers. Are you going to try claim the money back from the administrators?

one thing on this. I have said a few times the administrators will get paid a fortune. Its not just the three listed but loads of people from the restructuring team at EY. So in administrating the refunds etc for vouchers is costing what? 300 an hour for ten people, I do not know but I wonder if the fees charged for this process (the voucher refunds) will outweigh the actual vouchers value held.

No one will know the answer but EY and Zavvi but lots of EY people doing charts and spreadsheets and loggig and checking all vouchers etc compared to the voucher value - I wonder which will be/is larger?

If this was per person and not for all 10, it's probably nearer the mark.

    Disgraceful treatment of voucher holders.

Never used the company myself, play.com and then cdwow are much cheaper.

sorry thats what I meant, so like 3 grand an hour!

Yes they need to get paid to administrate the company BUT the point here is this. They are spending as much if not more (probably) on staffing this half arsed voucher denial scheme as actually honouring the vouchers or paying back the dosh!

Best people can do is if this company is bought out, never give them your business as one should never go into a business arrangement with thieves.

Then they can go mamaria verticulus and good riddance.

EDIT: I did use Woolworths and that is a company I will miss. That is a shame.

£300 an hour for ten people? That's waaaay undervaluing what the administrators charge!

I worked for a music retailer that went into administration in early 2007. I'm still on the list of unsecured creditors for my outstanding wages, and as such I received documentation regarding the breakdown of what the administrators were being paid. There was a group of approx 10 of them working in the office, several out in the field plus the two 'main guys' quoted on all the legal notices etc. Their cheapest member of staff, a clerical assistant, was being charged to the company at £200 per hour! It's absolutely unbelievable, there's good money to be made out there if you can hack doing that kind of thing.

I've noticed as well that a few posters have asked why the staff remain working for the administrators in the knowledge that you might not get paid. A lot of people do it because they geniunely love the company/brand and hang on in the hope that it'll get rescued, and that they will get to keep their job. The other element to it is that the Administrators will promise staff the earth to try to get them to stay on so that the company can continue trading, in some cases they've even given people cast iron guarantees that they'll get paid, only to renege on it later!

It's a horrible, horrible situation to be in and I wish all the staff and zavvi customers with voucher problems the best of luck!
  • As a zavvi employee there are so many comments on this page that I want to take issue with, but others have done it for me! Its nice to see that some people do understand there are people working in the chain that have been there for many many years, have mortgages and kids, and absolutely love what they do!

Its hard being in store at the moment, and I hate having to enforce the gift card issue, but I don't have a choice. There are far more friendly and understanding customers than there are angry ones, and we really do appreciate the kind words we get.

    it's not over yet!
