With all this talk about DD I'm getting a bit confused, it doesn't take a lot, do I have to put in regular payments or can I just put money in when I have some to spare? My current account isn't on-line banking so how so I put money into the Tesco account?

There's no requirement to regularly fund the Tesco account.

The best way is probably to use the direct debit facility. However, when you're using online savings accounts you really ought to have online (or at least telephone) banking facilities available to you.

My card reader arrived today with a covering letter dated 30th December.

I still cannot understand why they are unable to send them out on the day ordered.

I have now enabled my card reader, card and pin and it works.
The whole exercise must have taken 5/6 weeks since I first ordered a card reader!

Sounds like nothing's improved since I opened my account with Tesco in July!

Despite the long wait, I hope you're as happy with it as I have been. As long as the rate stays so competitive I'll be sticking with it until the bonus period ends and then see what else is available.

As long as we've all got mattresses, we'll be OK
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS
  • Is the rate still 5.1%? I noticed that the rate for new customers had dropped to 3.6% so I assume this is the same for current customers.
    This is getting addictive! :D:eek:

The basic rate is 3.6%. Customers that applied by 7th January also have the 1.5% bonus which takes it up to 5.1%.

I think their account opening flow diagram looks a bit like that Escher drawing- you know the ones will all the hundreds of steps that just go round in a circle.....

One the work of a tortured genius, the other a product of a high street grocer and a taxpayer owned bank. Maybe I'd be better off spending it all and helping Gordon out of a bit of a fix?!

I wrote asking to close my account, on 21 January. They acknowledged my complaint immediately, and took until 30 January to send their "substantive reply" which says nothing at all apart from apologising that "I had experienced difficulties". Not a mention or reponse to my comments about their fatally flawed account opening process. You'd think they'd have a standard letter dealing with all those points - they must have had hundreds of complaints on the same theme!

And STILL no closing payment - just the interest, fortunately, as I transferred all my money out by phone before writing to close the account.

Rather typical of Tesco, too, that you have to WRITE to close the account - why a phone call won't do, when you can do everything else on the phone, is beyond me.

Of course, now that they've told me they are closing my account, I can't log into it to see my closing transaction (or any of the history) - well, actually, I can log in but my account has disappeared - so I'll have to trust they've done the sums correctly. D'oh!
