Huzzah! Taking a hint from one of the above posts, I called them up to ask for activation of my account. 22 minutes on the phone later, I'm in.

Now I need to get the balance of my house deposit out of there. I guess that'll take until... June?

when you need a crad reader to withdraw money this should be sent without request surely. we requested one 11th dec now 3rd jan still not received. Getting really annoyed with this so called internet account, set up in october and have just managed to set up a transfer in but wont transfer in until i know we can get it out again. i have never know an internet account be so hard to run!

I opened one of these, but got bored and closed it again. They do not seem to know what they are doing. What on earth is all this business with having to post things off (repeatedly) when it is supposedly an internet account, and then discover you need to have a card reader that is not even mentioned when you open the account?

Thanks for the suggestions about using another card reader.

I don't actually have one so will have to be patient!

You can transfer £10,000 a day out of the account by BACS (faster payment) so hopefully just a few days will be needed to get the balance out.
  • Tesco internet account is DIABOLICAL.

However their interest rate is so good at present that you've just got to perservere.

The likes of Abbey and egg's internet accounts are so smooth in comparison.

Despite reading this thread, I just tried to apply for the account, but it came back saying "Savings Account Applications are currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I fell foul of this two nights running, just before you. I often do this sort of stuff late on, and the first night was in the early hours and must have been way past their bedtime. I was stopped very quickly before properly getting into the application process, with a notice that this wasn't possible between X and Y hours. I should think it probably coincides with their overnight accounts updating process.

The next day I forgot to do it earlier so again it was fairly late into the evening. I'd remembered the 'no go' period ended at 6.30am but couldn't remember when it started... anyway it was roughly 9:50 pm and I hoped maybe I was OK till 11pm. This time I got several screens into the application process before being stopped in my tracks part-way through and getting the same message as you... so the cut-off must be 10pm (which seems rather earlier than when you get non-access to account info etc with some others?).

I was a bit surprised to be 'terminated' in mid-flow and would have thought if someone had begun an application before 10 they should be allowed to complete it, but evidently not. So I had to start over the following morning and did get all the way through it then!

I'd printed off a copy of the notice the night before timed at shortly after 10 when it cut me off, just in case further on down the line they say I've opened two accounts!

Thanks for this. I hadn't realised it was a time thing.

I have just tried now, and successfully applied ok.

what a shock. ive just tried logging into my tesco account for the first time after sending off heck knows how many signature letters and its worked! now im gonna transfer a small amount across to see if the transfer system does.dont hold your breath lol . now do i bother to keep open my abbey over the counter account which after just checking has fallen to 3.5% and needs a grand in it to keep that rate? keep it as a safe haven or if tescos rate ends up dropping big time it wont make much difference? maybe ill just leave a tenner in it. get minimul intrest but obviously that wont matter at least it will still be open

what date in jan does the intrest rate go down. i cant find any info on this on their site. any link?

does anyone use the faster payments method from their lloyds tsb account? its seems on their site they only do it via telephone banking?
