thanks guys. just another quick question. ive now ordered a card reader. i was under the inpression that you could transfer money from and to your nominated account without one. and the reader is just if u want to set up another payment. is that correct. i had a look on my account yesterday and i could transfer money into my savings account but couldnt see a link to transfer money out into my nominated account. i presume then that u need the carder to set up a payment to you nominated acount even though the account is already registared? i just dont want to move alot of my money across from another savings accounts and not beable toget it out until the card reader comes. and what exactly do uo do with the reader does it have a password on or something, i have to say this account is so dam confusing.

I think when they launched this account, that was always the intention...provided you'd created the link by making an initial deposit by DD pull from your nominated account.

However, things seem to have got a little messy when RBS were so quick off the mark with faster payments earlier this year, meaning Tesco were pushed into a corner having adopted RBS's systems for the operation of their account.

Yes, although if you need money in a hurry they'll action the transfer (to anywhere) prior to your card reader (plus card and PIN) arriving. I seem to remember that if they do this it creates a payee for you so you won't need to ring them again if you need to make a second transfer out before your card reader etc arrives.

The operation of the card reader is described on the RBS site...

thanks very much. i guess ill try a small transfer to my savings account just to make sure its working ok and then ill wait for a reader b4 transfering the rest across. i guess its ok having this account with a decent intrest rate but how many weeks/months intrest are you losing by having to wait for all the paper work to be done.

Expect to be notified in due course of ANOTHER rate drop now the base rate has dropped from 2% to 1.5%

Here's hoping that it's worth keeping this account after all the problems we've had ...
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

just checked out the rbs cared reader link. never realised it was as technical as that. when it says to put in your cash card i presume then that would then be the one from your nominated account
