  • While it may be a misfortune to have an item allegedly taken from your house, the use of the forum in this matter does not do your eventual case any good. If I were the alleged Virgin Engineer and had categorically not taken the item, the boot would indeed be on the other foot and I would be seeking the advice of my union and employer in this matter.

Actually your wrong here - if an employee of virgin on his way to a job breaks a car window and steals a laptop then its the employee only who is at fault, but once that employee enters someones house that Virgin has sent him to and pay him for the matter becomes partly Virgins responsibility aswell.

No, they are only liable for the actions their employee carries out in the course of his employment. They have no legal liability for the criminal acts of employees.

Well Virgin as a company sent this person as a representative of their company into this persons house - by your logic Harringey council aren't anything to do with the baby P case as it was only some of their workers who dealt with it...
    TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!!

baby p case were social workers FOR the child and they ignored repeat incidents. they WERE responsible.

this case of possible house theft isnt virgins problem as yes the engineer worked for them but virgin cant help in the matter! its a straight police situation between OP and a possible thief! what does OP want?! virgin to give her back £90?! virgin cant do anything. how can they?!

As the engineer was able to walk out of the front door without either of you going with him to the door, I take it, it wasn't locked and therefore while you were all together in the room anyone could have opened the front door and taken them from the hall?

    Just another perspective.

My front door can be opened quite easily from the inside by turning the handle, but not from the outside, when a key is required. Same with hotel room doors, yale lock doors etc etc.

Stop scaremongering....no one has been named and the OP has the right to air what has happened as they are the victim.... not an anonymous Virgin engineer.

Also typical hand wringing from some on here who are always looking for the 'out' for wrongdoers...the endless excuses as to why it could not be the engineer who has stolen something.

Why not?...he had the opportunity....the means( and if GHDs are that expensive)..the motive!!!

The case seems clear to me....the 'engineer' did it Officer!!

What scare mongering? My point is that if I was the engineer and had done nothing, the situation would be different. If there are to be any legal procedings in the event of the alleged theft, OP points here may not do their case any good.

One should allow the Police to do their investigation and maybe resolve the issue first.

Why are Virgin obstructing this then?

It makes me smile to see people who think that no one could possibly commit such a theft and that it must be down to some other 'cause'

I'm with the householder all the way on this one.

    Elmer;)
  • Sorry to hear about this, thats a really rubbish thing to happen. You trust that people you need to let into your house will treat you with honesty and integrity - i hope this doesnt sour you to anyone innocent in the future.

I find it strange that so many people are keen to suggest that it cant of been the engineer. Seems fairly straightforward to me from how the OP has explained it, and the police are clearly accepting. Honestly, i think some people just have the bizarre need to argue that black is white, whatever anyone says.

Hoping father christmas brings you a new set :)
