Theft by a Virgin Engineer - help

thats disgusting having your personal property stolen whilst you are in the house.

the only thing im thinking(and thinking positivly here) is that at least it wasnt your purse or your husbands wallet with bank cards etc in as that would have been alot more hassel for you both and probably would feel more invasive.

glad the police are taking action but virgin need their backsides booted over the customer service that you have received.

hope it hasnt totally ruined your christmas

Well Virgin as a company sent this person as a representative of their company into this persons house - by your logic Harringey council aren't anything to do with the baby P case as it was only some of their workers who dealt with it...

A binman who works for Harringey council spots a laptop on a passenger seat of a car. He pops the window and makes off with said laptop.

Virgin are not responsible for the criminal actions of one of their employees. The individual concerned is!

Vicarious liability I think is the term used to describe the responsibility of an employer for the actions of its staff during the course of their duties.

e.g. if the guy wired up your tv & cable box incorrectly & that directly resulted in a housefire, Virgin would be liable for that.

Thieving from houses isn't part of his job description & it's something Virgin just cannot be held responsible for. But they do need to consider the seriousness of the situation & decide whether to initiate an investigation into the allegations. And that might mean restricting their employee's duties while the investigation runs its course, or ensuring he's accompanied when doing installs, or it might mean suspension from duty altogether when they look at his career history and any previous allegations.

Unless the Police have found the stolen item in his possession though I doubt there's much can be done, tbh.

Actually your wrong here - if an employee of virgin on his way to a job breaks a car window and steals a laptop then its the employee only who is at fault, but once that employee enters someones house that Virgin has sent him to and pay him for the matter becomes partly Virgins responsibility aswell.

This is so wrong and unfair....

.... that you would use a gift once and then use it as a Christmas gift. Thankfully the thief saved you from being sued by someone for a used present that burnt their hair because it was used.

Actually that's what we thought as when the police first came round they said go through coats, bags etc.

Right from the start the police said that engineers/workmann etc who try their luck know the law and know that in the end it's really hard to prove.

When the guy went out to his van the front door was always shut behind him, I have very young children so the door needed to be shut. Me or my OH opened it when he needed to come back in.

I realise that Virgin can't control the action of their staff, I just can't belive the way they have handled it. The police asked them not to talk to the engineer before they did and now the piloce have found out he has been interviewed. Virgin didn't even log all the calls the police or the ones me and my OH made but the police & ourselves kept names and times etc of when we rang.

Virgin wouldn't even give me the correct H/O phonenumber but the pc found out what it was and gave it to me.

at the end of the day it was only a pair of striaghtners the my Dad bought as a present so they can be replaced but just frustrating that there's nothing else that we can really do.

there's always something you can do, as someone suggested ring the HR dept. email / sent letters to the CEO, Branson etc. make a fuss don't let this go.
